Construction Safety Monitor - Electrical Construction

Our client is seeking to hire a Construction Safety Monitor that will be responsible for supporting and enforcing safety requirements on electrical construction projects. This position monitors field activities, identifies potential hazards, promotes safe work practices, and helps ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, NFPA 70E, company safety policies, and project-specific safety requirements . The ideal candidate will possess a Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) certification and have practical experience in electrical, commercial, industrial, or other construction environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct daily jobsite safety inspections and monitor electrical construction activities for unsafe conditions.
• Identify and evaluate hazards involving electrical work, energized equipment, temporary power, tools, ladders, scaffolding, excavation, lifting operations, and material handling.
• Monitor compliance with OSHA construction regulations , company safety policies, and project-specific safety requirements.
• Verify proper selection and use of PPE, including hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, arc-rated clothing, hearing protection, respiratory protection, and fall-protection equipment.
• Monitor electrical work for compliance with Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and established electrical safe-work practices.
• Monitor energized electrical work and verify that appropriate controls, approach boundaries, PPE, and safety procedures are implemented.
• Support compliance with NFPA 70E requirements for electrical safe work practices.
• Participate in daily safety meetings, toolbox talks, pre-task planning, and employee safety orientations.
• Report unsafe conditions, near misses, incidents, and safety violations to the appropriate Superintendent, Project Manager, or Safety Manager.
• Assist with accident, incident, and near-miss investigations and maintain appropriate documentation.
• Monitor electrical contractors, subcontractors, and other trades to ensure compliance with project safety requirements.
• Conduct and assist with Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs), and pre-task plans .
• Monitor fall protection, confined-space operations, hot work, excavation, rigging, lifting operations, and other high-risk construction activities.
• Inspect temporary electrical systems, extension cords, power tools, GFCI protection, panels, and other electrical-related equipment when within the scope of the position.
• Verify proper housekeeping, access and egress, barricades, signage, emergency equipment, and pedestrian controls.
• Track safety observations, deficiencies, corrective actions, and follow-up activities.
• Maintain accurate daily safety reports, inspection records, training documentation, and incident reports.
• Immediately escalate or stop work when an imminent danger or serious safety hazard is identified, consistent with company procedures.
• Promote a strong safety culture through field coaching, communication, employee engagement, and positive safety leadership.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) certification preferred or required, depending on project requirements.
• Previous construction safety experience, preferably in electrical, commercial, industrial, data center, utility, or infrastructure construction .
• Working knowledge of OSHA construction standards.
• Knowledge of electrical construction hazards and safe work practices.
• Understanding of Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) requirements.
• Ability to recognize hazards and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
• Ability to communicate effectively with electricians, foremen, superintendents, project managers, subcontractors, and craft personnel.
• Ability to read and understand construction plans, safety procedures, JHAs/JSAs, and project documentation.
• Strong observation, documentation, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work effectively in an active construction environment.
