Read more at Location: Lancaster, TX Division: Road Transport US Job Posting Title: Manager, DOT Safety, Road Transport US Time Type: Full Time Summary The Manager, DOT Safety, Road Transport US is responsible for leading the organization's DOT safety and regulatory compliance programs across the U.S. Road Transport division. Reporting to the Director, Safety & Compliance, this role provides strategic and operational leadership for DOT safety initiatives, ensuring compliance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations while fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement. This position leads a team of Safety Specialists and partners closely with Operations, Driver Leaders, Human Resources, Fleet Maintenance, Equipment Control, Claims, and leadership to develop and implement safety programs, mitigate organizational risk, improve driver performance, and support safe, efficient transportation operations. Duties & Responsibilities Leadership & People Management Lead, coach, develop, and manage a team of hourly Safety Specialists by establishing performance expectations, providing ongoing feedback, and supporting employee development. Establish departmental priorities, assign workloads, and monitor performance to ensure timely execution of safety and compliance initiatives. Develop, implement, and continuously improve departmental policies, procedures, and standard operating practices. Foster a culture of safety, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement throughout the organization. Serve as the primary DOT safety subject matter expert for Operations leadership and cross-functional business partners. Support after-hours accident response and other safety-related matters as business needs require. DOT Compliance & Driver Qualification Lead the DOT safety and regulatory compliance program for the U.S. Road Transport division, ensuring compliance with all applicable FMCSA regulations and company policies. Oversee compliance related to Driver Qualification Files, Hours of Service, Drug and Alcohol Testing, Vehicle Maintenance, accident reporting, CSA performance, and other DOT regulatory requirements. Ensure drivers meet all federal qualification requirements by overseeing Motor Vehicle Records (MVRs), PSP reports, Medical Examiner Certificates, CDL status, Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse requirements, and annual qualification reviews. Monitor regulatory changes and implement updates to policies, procedures, and compliance programs. Support DOT investigations, compliance reviews, regulatory audits, and roadside inspections while ensuring timely completion of corrective actions. Driver Safety & Performance Monitor driver safety performance through Electronic Logging Devices (ELDs), onboard camera systems, telematics, CSA data, and other safety technologies to identify trends and opportunities for improvement. Partner with Driver Leaders and Human Resources to review safety events, provide coaching recommendations, and recommend appropriate corrective actions to address unsafe behaviors, regulatory violations, and opportunities for performance improvement. Collaborate with Operations leadership to reduce recurring violations, improve driver safety performance, and promote safe operating practices. Support accident prevention initiatives, driver recognition programs, and company-wide safety campaigns. Lead investigations involving DOT-recordable accidents, serious incidents, and other safety-related events. Conduct root cause analyses, determine accident preventability, and develop recommendations that reduce future incidents. Coordinate investigations with Claims, insurance carriers, Operations, and other stakeholders as appropriate. Monitor accident trends and recommend initiatives that improve fleet safety and reduce organizational risk. Safety Training & Continuous Improvement Oversee DOT safety orientation and regulatory compliance training for newly hired drivers. Develop and facilitate ongoing safety education, regulatory updates, and company-wide safety initiatives. Conduct internal DOT compliance audits, location safety reviews, and operational assessments to ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements. Develop and monitor safety scorecards, compliance reports, dashboards, and key performance indicators (KPIs) related to safety to evaluate organizational performance. Analyze safety and compliance data to identify trends and recommend process improvements that strengthen safety performance and operational effectiveness. Lead or participate in cross-functional projects that support safety, compliance, and continuous improvement initiatives. Perform other duties, projects, and responsibilities assigned to support departmental and organizational objectives. Qualifications & Experience Required: Bachelor's degree in Safety, Occupational Health, Transportation, Business Administration, or a related field preferred; equivalent transportation or DOT safety experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. Minimum five (5) years of progressive DOT safety, transportation safety, or regulatory compliance experience. Minimum three (3) years of leadership experience managing employees or safety teams. Strong working knowledge of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSA) and DOT compliance requirements. Experience managing Driver Qualification programs, DOT compliance initiatives, regulatory audits, and accident investigations. Demonstrated experience implementing process improvements and leading cross-functional initiatives. Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to travel as business needs require. Preferred: Experience supporting multi-site transportation operations or a geographically dispersed driver workforce. Certified Director of Safety (CDS). Certified Safety Supervisor (CSS). Experience with: Electronic Logging Devices (ELDs) Driver Qualification File management FMCSA Compliance Reviews Onboard camera and telematics systems CSA Safety Measurement System (SMS) DOT accident investigations Drug & Alcohol Testing Programs Transportation Management Systems (TMS) Demonstrated leadership, coaching, and employee development skills. Strong attention to detail with the ability to analyze trends and translate data into actionable recommendations. High level of integrity, professionalism, and accountability. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and transportation technology platforms. Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. This position is primarily office-based and requires the employee to regularly sit, stand, walk, communicate verbally, and operate standard office equipment, including computers and mobile devices. The role may occasionally require travel to company terminals, customer locations, or accident scenes, including climbing into and out of commercial trucks or trailers to conduct inspections or investigations. The employee may occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds and may be required to bend, stoop, reach, or climb as necessary during site visits or vehicle inspections. This position operates primarily in a professional office environment with periodic travel to company terminals, transportation yards, maintenance facilities, customer locations, and other operational sites. The role requires regular collaboration with Operations, Driver Leaders, Human Resources, Fleet Maintenance, Claims, Risk Management, and executive leadership. Occasional exposure to outdoor weather conditions, commercial vehicles, industrial equipment, and warehouse or yard environments may occur during site visits, safety audits, accident investigations, or compliance reviews. The position may require occasional evening, weekend, or after-hours availability to support accident response, regulatory matters, or other business needs.
