Job Description

This role oversees commercial construction projects from start to finish, with an initial focus on a fire station project that includes an elevator replacement and addition. The Superintendent leads field operations, manages subcontractors, maintains project schedules and budgets, and ensures a safe, efficient, and high-quality jobsite. This position offers the opportunity to work closely with ownership, contribute to a growing team, and develop within a tight-knit, supportive environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day field operations for commercial construction projects, including an initial assignment on a fire station project with an elevator replacement and addition.
• Oversee and coordinate all subcontractors on site to ensure work progresses safely, efficiently, and in accordance with plans and specifications.
• Read, interpret, and implement construction plans, blueprints, and specifications to guide field activities and ensure quality standards.
• Develop, maintain, and manage project schedules, including creating and updating two-week look-ahead schedules to keep work on track.
• Monitor project budgets in the field, support cost control efforts, and identify potential impacts to schedule and budget.
• Ensure site safety by enforcing OSHA and company safety standards, conducting regular safety checks, and promoting a strong safety culture.
• Prepare and complete accurate daily reports documenting job progress, manpower, inspections, and key project events.
• Manage change orders in the field by identifying changes, coordinating with the project team, and supporting proper documentation and implementation.
• Communicate regularly and professionally with clients, design teams, and internal stakeholders to provide updates and address issues.
• Identify and resolve field issues proactively, coordinating with project management and ownership when needed.
• Support quality control by reviewing work in place and ensuring compliance with project specifications and industry standards.
• Work collaboratively with owners and team members to support the natural growth of the company and contribute to a positive jobsite culture.

Essential Skills

• Minimum 5 years of experience as a Superintendent or similar role in commercial construction.
• Strong ability to read, interpret, and apply construction plans, blueprints, and specifications.
• Proven experience overseeing and coordinating subcontractors on active jobsites.
• Demonstrated experience managing project schedules, including short-interval (two-week look-ahead) planning.
• Experience supporting project budget management from the field perspective.
• Working knowledge of OSHA requirements and proven track record of enforcing site safety standards.
• Experience with daily reporting, including documenting progress, manpower, and key events.
• Hands-on experience with change order management in a construction environment.
• Effective client communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to represent the project professionally on site.
• Ability to work independently in the field while collaborating closely with ownership and the project team.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience as a site superintendent on commercial projects involving building systems such as elevators.
• experience in schedule and budget management for multi-trade commercial projects.
• Familiarity with jobsite documentation practices, including daily logs and change order records.
• Comfort working in a smaller company environment with direct access to ownership and decision-makers.
• Interest in long-term growth within a company that offers significant advancement opportunities.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to contribute to a tight-knit, collaborative team culture.

Work Environment

The Superintendent works in a blended office and field environment, spending significant time on active construction sites and in jobsite trailers. The role involves regular presence on the jobsite to oversee field activities, monitor safety, and coordinate subcontractors, as well as time in the office to manage schedules, reports, and communication. The company operates as a smaller, tight-knit organization where team members work directly with ownership and project stakeholders, creating a collaborative and supportive culture with strong growth potential. The work environment is fast-paced and hands-on, with a focus on safe, efficient delivery of commercial construction projects.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Glen Burnie, MD.

The pay range for this position is $33.00 - $45.00/hr.

This is a fully onsite position in Glen Burnie,MD.
