Senior Manager, Machine Learning Engineering - Communication & Connectivity

Within our Guest & Host organization is the Communication and Connectivity team:

• Owns tools used daily by millions of guests and hosts, including Messaging and push notifications.
• Responsible for connecting hosts and building a platform for 3rd party partners.
• Includes engineers covering multiple disciplines: web, native, backend, data, and machine learning.
• The role will focus on Machine Learning, Data, and AI applications.

The Difference You Will Make:

• Drive alignment across engineering, product, and leadership on AI investment priorities.
• Set the multi-year technical roadmap.
• Partner with Product, Design, and Data Science to take high-impact ML initiatives from concept to production.
• Ensure high-quality, efficient data pipelines that support both business and AI needs.
• Define and own success metrics that tie ML work directly to business outcomes.
• Grow and mentor a team of ML/Data engineers, raising the technical bar across the organization.

A Typical Day:

• Lead and mentor a senior team of Managers and Engineers across Machine Learning, Data Engineering, and Software Engineering.
• Partner with senior leadership across Engineering, Data Science, Product, and Business.
• Align stakeholders, define multi-year roadmaps, and execute on iterative milestones.
• Coach and develop team members, helping them grow their careers and technical expertise.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of overall engineering experience.
• 5+ years managing a team in a fast-paced, high-growth tech environment.
• BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science or related field.
• Experience building, leading, and architecting full-stack products and systems at enterprise scale.
• Experience in applying modern artificial intelligence technologies to products and development cycles.
• Technical leadership: hands-on experience leading project teams and setting technical direction.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Requirements

• Must live in a state where Airbnb, Inc. has a registered entity.
• Remote Eligible position with occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites.

Benefits

• Base pay range: $248,000 — $310,000 USD.
• Role may be eligible for bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits.
