Rural Carrier Associate (RCA)

Job Overview Rural Carrier Associate delivers and collects mail along a prescribed rural route using a vehicle, provides customers with a variety of services, and maintains mail security at all times. Responsibilities Sort mail in delivery sequence for the assigned route. Receive and sign for accountable mail. Load mail into the vehicle. Deliver mail to customers along the prescribed route on a regular schedule; collect monies and receipts for accountable mail and pick up mail from customers' roadside boxes. Sell stamps, stamped paper, and money orders; accept C.O.D., registered, certified, and insured mail and parcel post; furnuse routine information concerning postal matters and provide requested forms to customers. Return mail collected, undeliverable mail, and submit monies and receipts to the post office. Prepare mail for forwarding and maintain records of change‑of‑address information. Prepare a daily trip report and maintain a list of the customers on the route. Conduct special surveys when required. Maintain an inventory of stamps and stamped paper as needed to provide service to customers on the route. Provide for mail security at all times. Physical Demands The job is physically demanding. Work is performed indoors and outdoors in all types of weather. Carriers may need to load and unload trays and containers of mail and parcels weighing up to 70 pounds. Work is usually available on Saturdays and on an as‑needed basis to cover the absence of the carrier.
