About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse - Intensive Care Unit Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: ICU Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: 12 Hours Nights Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum 2 Years of ICU Experience License: Active RN License Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Two years of permanent staff RN experience in acute care Ability to pass an EKG competency exam prior to arrival Description: This position requires a Registered Nurse to work in an Intensive Care Unit. The unit has a capacity of 20 beds, with an average daily patient census of 16. The nurse will manage adult surgical and medical ICU patients, including cardiac and neuro cases. Common diagnoses include STEMI, DKA, respiratory failure, stroke, sepsis, renal failure, and neuro conditions. The nurse will also care for surgical patients, including general, total joints, urology, and neuro surgeries. Patient-to-nurse ratios are generally 1:2. Key skills required: Stroke experience, ventilator management, assisting with intubation and extubation, central venous line management and placement, foley catheter management, tube feeding via NGT or PEG, IV medication titration, vasoactive drip management, total care of critically ill patients, arterial line management, and managing external ventricular drains. Support within the department includes a Charge Nurse with no patient assignments during the day, one CNA per shift, a phlebotomy team for peripheral lab draws, and a PICC team available during the day. Registered nurses may float to Progressive Care Unit or Medical-Surgical Units as needed. Progressive Care Unit ratios are 1:3 and Medical-Surgical ratios are 1:5. Weekend rotations will be required, working every other weekend. There are no on-call requirements. Holiday expectations may include working during certain holidays. Requests for time off will be accommodated for no more than seven days. Nurses will work scheduled cycles that may require variations such as two on, two off, or five on, five off rotations. Scrubs must be pewter gray, with t-shirts in gray, white, or black featuring the designated monogram. Jackets must be gray or black, and badges should be visible above the waist at all times. Unit culture emphasizes teamwork and support for critical care staff.
