Electrophysiology Registered Nurse (RN) Role Description

As an Electrophysiology Registered Nurse, your primary responsibilities involve function as the primary nurse or a Circulator. Key duties include patient assessment, medication and safety review, clinical documentation, communication, and coordinating care before, during, and after EP procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

• Pre-Procedure Preparation:
• Review medical history, medications, allergies, lab results, IV access, procedural orders, and other pertinent clinical information.

• Identify patient-specific risks or needs and coordinate with the Electrophysiologist, Anesthesia, and other team members.

• During the Procedure:

• Maintain a patient-focused role and perform ongoing assessments.
• Administer medications safely and manage moderate sedation within scope.
• Document procedural and safety information and communicate any changes in patient condition to the team.

• Provide backup pacing support during cardiac implant procedures and work closely with Anesthesia when applicable.

• Circulator Role:

• Obtain and open sterile supplies, set up and turn over rooms, and maintain necessary fluids and supplies for ablation procedures.

• Ensure equipment is available throughout the case and may assist with basic patient and equipment preparation.

• Communication and Coordination:

• Communicate effectively with physicians and in-room staff.
• Support timely room starts and turnovers.
• Coordinate with the Charge Nurse, vendors, and other team members for procedural care.

Essential Skills and Knowledge:

• Documentation:

• Proficient in documenting procedures using Epic.

• Moderate Sedation:

• Skilled in administering moderate sedation.

Preferred Experience:

• Cardiac implant or structural heart scrub experience is advantageous.

Common Procedures:

• Ablations:

• PFA and RF ablations, Cryo ablations for conditions such as A fib/flutter, atrial tachycardia, AVNRT, WPW, and other ANRT ablations.

• Device Implants:

• Traditional pacemakers, ICD, Subcutaneous ICD, Leadless ppm, Loops, and LAAC devices such as Watchmans and Amulets.

• HRE Procedures:

• Laser and low-risk operations.

Job Requirements:

• A valid New York license.
• A minimum of 2 years of experience.

Certifications Needed:

• BLS certification from the American Heart Association.

Ensure all interactions and procedures are conducted with a focus on patient safety and effective communication among the healthcare team to support efficient and quality patient care outcomes.
