CMM Inspector / Operator

1st Shift: 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM
2nd Shift: 3:30 PM – 12:00 AM

Are you passionate about precision, quality, and advanced inspection technology? We are seeking a CMM Inspector / Operator to join our growing manufacturing team. In this role, you will perform dimensional inspections of precision-machined components using Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs) and a variety of precision measurement tools to ensure products meet engineering specifications, customer requirements, and quality standards.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with manufacturing, machining, aerospace, defense, or quality inspection experience who enjoys working in a highly technical and quality-focused environment.

What You'll Do

• Set up and operate Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs) to inspect precision-manufactured components.
• Load, select, and execute established CMM inspection programs.
• Position and fixture parts for inspection and verify measurement accuracy.
• Review inspection data and determine product conformance to engineering drawings and customer specifications.
• Perform dimensional inspections using precision measuring instruments, including micrometers, calipers, height gages, bore gages, indicators, pin gages, thread gages, and other inspection equipment.
• Conduct first-piece, in-process, receiving, and final inspections.
• Document inspection results and maintain accurate quality records.
• Identify and document nonconforming products and communicate quality concerns to appropriate personnel.
• Support production teams by responding to inspection requests and helping maintain product flow.
• Assist with First Article Inspections (FAI), customer inspections, and special quality requirements.
• Maintain traceability, inspection status, and calibration compliance.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives related to inspection processes and product quality.
• Collaborate with Manufacturing, Engineering, Programming, and Quality teams to resolve dimensional and product-conformance issues.

Advanced Opportunities

Based on experience and demonstrated capability, you may also:

• Establish part alignments, datums, coordinate systems, and probe configurations.
• Create, modify, optimize, and troubleshoot CMM programs.
• Develop advanced CMM setup and programming skills through training and hands-on experience.

Qualifications

Required

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience in dimensional inspection, precision manufacturing, machining, aerospace, defense, or a similar manufacturing environment preferred.
• Previous exposure to or hands-on experience operating a Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM).
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and dimensional requirements.
• Familiarity with precision measuring equipment such as micrometers, calipers, height gages, bore gages, indicators, pin gages, and thread gages.
• Basic understanding of dimensional inspection principles.
• Strong attention to detail and documentation skills.
• Basic computer proficiency.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn new inspection techniques.

Preferred

• Experience with ZEISS and/or Helmel CMM equipment and software .
• Experience setting up components for CMM inspection.
• Experience establishing part alignments, datums, coordinate systems, and probe configurations.
• Experience creating, editing, or troubleshooting CMM programs.
• Working knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) .
• Experience inspecting complex aerospace or defense components.
• Experience supporting or performing First Article Inspections (FAI) .
• Familiarity with AS9100 quality systems and aerospace manufacturing environments.

Physical Requirements

• Regularly lift and move up to 10 pounds.
• Occasionally lift and move up to 100 pounds.
• Frequent standing, walking, sitting, reaching, and use of hands.
• Occasional climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.

Vision Requirements

• Ability to meet required visual acuity standards for inspection work.
• Must be able to distinguish and identify colors as required for inspection activities.
• Color perception testing required.

Work Environment

• Manufacturing environment with exposure to moving mechanical equipment.
• Occasional exposure to fumes and airborne particles.
• Moderate noise level.
