About the Role
UPMC Heart and Vascular Institute is seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Cardiology Technician to join our growing Electrophysiology and Cardiac Device team. This role offers a high degree of autonomy and the opportunity to work closely with electrophysiology physicians, device representatives, and clinical staff while supporting a fast-paced, specialized cardiology practice.
The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in cardiac device management and electrophysiology, along with previous medical office experience. Purpose: Perform specialized clinical functions related to Electrocardiogram, Holter and Event monitoring, cardiac device remote monitoring, service line education and training, and rooming in outpatient clinic.
Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate competency in performance of card tech job responsibilities and expectations.
- Draw and process blood samples and perform EKGs as needed.
- Perform service line training and education such as Epic/EpicCare SuperUser, BLS/ACLS instructor, and new hire card tech/MA onboarding.
- Ability to review and escalate diagnostic studies such as lab work, EKGs and X-ray to clinical team when indicated.
- Assist with office-based procedures as needed.
- Complete all appropriate forms and communicate with the clinical nurse coordinator and physician in charge.
- Coordinate patient visits and schedules patients for additional studies if needed.
- Correctly enter data in patient record.
- Orient and train new employees and act as mentor to Cardiology Technicians and Medical Assistants.
- Oversight of remote monitoring. Ability to review and escalate remote cardiac transmissions to clinical team when indicated.
- Perform appropriate and accurate charge entry for office visits and testing as needed.
- Perform six-minute walk tests. Assist with Exercise stress testing.
- Prep and prepare patients for holter and event monitors. Download reports and maintain holter and event database.
- Provide care to adult and geriatric patients. Assess patient health history, take vital signs, and review medications.
- Provide specialized clinical care to patients and review patient education.
- Demonstrates competency with independently performing procedures and required set up in the outpatient clinical setting.
- Assume responsibility for additional clinical duties and projects as designated by departmental leadership.
- Order supplies as needed for Outpatient Clinic.
- H.S. Diploma or equivalent required.
- 4 years of experience as a Cardiovascular or Cardiology Technician, Paramedic, LPN, PCT- Adv, Or Medical Assistant, Expert is required.
- Graduate of a Medical Assistant program is preferred.
- Knowledgeable in anatomy and physiology of the heart.
- Ability to think and act independentlyComputer skills required.
- Service Line divisional Specific Requirements:
- Cardiology-Successful completion of basic arrhythmia class for APCT-Tech-Transporter through UPMC continuing education course with documentation of ongoing annual competency.
- Cardiac Surgery-Successful completion of cardiac/vascular surgery training of in-office procedures including, but not limited to, clean technique, VAC dressing management, suture removal, Unna boot placement/removal, procedure set-up.
- The nurse manager will provide proctors and appropriate checklist based on individual office needs.
- Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances: BLS required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) OR Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
