This role supports a wide range of projects across entertainment, commercial, industrial, government, detention, and parking structures, offering the opportunity to develop analytical and design skills with a focus on seismic design, retrofits, and advanced structural analysis methods. Work independently, make technical decisions based on building code interpretation, and mentor junior engineers within the Buildings + Places group. Responsibilities Perform specific and moderate portions of broader assignments under experienced engineers. Gather and correlate engineering data using established procedures. Execute detailed engineering assignments involving calculations from simple to complex tests. Propose approaches to solve new problems with modifications of standard procedures or past methods. Identify discrepancies in results. Provide guidance to entry‑level engineers. Complete work in accordance with agreed budget and schedule with little supervision. Independently perform all tasks necessary for primary design elements of engineering works. Demonstrate developmental experience in a professional position. Engage on projects from entertainment, commercial, industrial, parking structures, government, and detention sectors. Collaborate with more experienced engineers on large projects and lead or work independently on moderately sized structural design tasks. Perform structural analysis and design. Coordinate work with other design disciplines and prepare contract documents. Provide construction administration support. Author structural reports, assessments, and studies. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or Architectural Engineering and 6 years of experience (or equivalent). US Citizenship due to federal contract/security requirements. Preferred Qualifications Master of Science with a structural engineering concentration. 12+ years of experience. Professional License in California (SE). Experience applying major structural design codes (IBC, CBC, ASCE 7, etc ). Experience using 3‑D structural analysis software (ETABS, SAP, RISA, RAM, SAFE). Experience designing in steel, concrete, masonry, and timber. Experience with wind and seismic lateral design, including retrofits. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Experience with performance‑based design. Experience with ASCE 41 for retrofits. This position will not offer sponsorship now or in the future.
