SALARY (A-E Steps) Planning Technician I : $22.63 - $27.50 Hourly/$1,810.40 - $2,200.00 Biweekly Planning Technician II : $24.98 - $30.36 Hourly/$1,998.40 - $2,428.80 Biweekly About the Position: Under direct or general supervision performs a variety of technical support functions and paraprofessional work in support of Planning Department staff, the public, and stakeholders. About the Department:
The Planning Department serves as the land use information center for the County. The Department functions as a professional staff to the Board of Supervisors, the Planning Commission, and the Airport Land Use Commission. The Department disseminates information to the public regarding potential development areas for residential, commercial, industrial, and resource development and management.
The Department is responsible for the maintenance and implementation of the County General Plan, the County Zoning, and implementation of the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). The Department processes development applications and permit requests for land divisions, use permits, General Plan amendments, zone changes, and variances. It also processes permits and enforces state requirements for the Surface Mining and Reclamation Act (SMARA). In addition, the Department functions as the Census Data Center for the County and disseminates information regarding population, economic, and housing characteristics and trends.

The Department is currently recruiting for one (1) vacancy. Additionally, Tehama County is establishing an eligibility list to fill future vacancies for a Planning Technician I/II, as well as subsequent vacancies which occur during the life of the eligibility list.
New employees should anticipate being hired at the beginning step of the salary range. Candidates who exceed entry level qualifications may be considered, with approval from the Board of Supervisors, for placement at other than A step.

- Provides technical assistance and information to staff and the public in the administration of specific planning programs, requirements, or ordinances, review and stamp plot plans to assure compliance with the General Plan, and Zoning Code
- Assign physical situs addresses to property proposed for development
- Provide general information relating to development and subdivision ordinance requirements
- Review and process applications submitted to the Planning Department to determine completeness of the information submitted
Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
- Planning Technician I and II: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade. College-level coursework or certifications in planning, drafting, construction or related field is highly desirable. Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
License & Special Requirements:
- A valid California Class C driver's license or alternative form of transportation may be required for some positions at the time of appointment. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

- Annual salary step increases based upon satisfactory performance and completion of one year of employment (Step A to E).
HEALTH:
- Approximately 80% of the premium for medical, dental, and vision plan is paid by the County (EPO Plan). The plan covers the employee and all eligible dependents at NO ADDITIONAL COST!
- Employee premiums are $234.54 per month as of January 1, 2025 and $266.97 as of January 1, 2026 for employee and all eligible dependents.
PAID LEAVES:
