Adjunct, Graphic Design

Job Summary The adjunct faculty member will work with full‑time faculty, under the general supervision of the Associate Dean of the Department of Visual Arts & Design, to perform program and class‑related duties such as classroom (including online) instruction, content design and delivery, and student evaluation. This is a pooled position. The department reviews applications as positions become available. The position is paid at $1,056 per instructional unit. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Become familiar with and abide by all college policies with immediate priority given to those that govern interactions with colleagues, staff, administrators, and departments throughout the organization. Maintain professional etiquette in communications with students, staff, faculty, and administrators. Provide appropriate and timely feedback for all assignments. Return graded assignments in a timely fashion per department standards. Maintain student attendance records (for Financial Aid purposes) and grades. Conduct a variety of appropriate evaluations of student performance. Inform students of progress-to-date periodically and assign and submit grades by published deadlines. Assist in maintaining a safe and mutually respectful instructional environment. Prepare and submit incident reports to the Dean of Student Services for inappropriate student behavior as defined by the Code of Student Rights and Responsibilities Policy. Maintain professional and collegial behavior. Respond to student concerns/complaints and student communications promptly (generally within 1‑2 business days). Maintain a professional appearance as defined by the discipline and/or college procedure. Complete all required employee trainings. Know and enforce FERPA guidelines; provide ADA accommodations as requested. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Ability to teach post‑secondary graphic design students. Demonstrated abilities in graphic design proficiency. Good reading and writing skills. Excellent communication skills. Dependable and punctual. Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of people with a variety of abilities and backgrounds, maintaining good working relationships across the college. Ability to work with all groups from a variety of academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, and with community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities. Minimum Qualifications Demonstrated experience in the graphic design field. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree. Five years full‑time experience in the graphic design industry. Legal and Employment Information All faculty will maintain an on‑site campus presence unless approved for online‑only courses. You are employed as an adjunct faculty member on a contract‑to‑contract basis, with no future expectation or obligation for employment. Employment may be terminated at will. You are required to maintain professional boundaries with all SLCC students. The position is subject to a successful completion of a criminal background check.
