Position Summary

The Grants Manager is a core member of the Birmingham Corps team, responsible for securing and stewarding the institutional funding that makes our mission possible. This role leads the full grants portfolio — from prospect research and proposal writing to compliance reporting and funder relationships — ensuring Birmingham Corps has the resources to recruit, train, and place high-potential residents in critical roles across Birmingham's public, private, and nonprofit sectors. The ideal candidate is a disciplined grant writer who brings strong organizational and interpersonal skills, a collaborative spirit, and a deep belief that equitable opportunity and community investment can transform a city.

Key Responsibilities

Grants & Institutional Giving

• Oversee the full lifecycle of Birmingham Corps' institutional giving portfolio, including prospect research, proposal writing, submission, and reporting for foundations, corporate partners, and government funders.
• Maintain a master grants calendar to ensure timely submissions and compliance with all funder requirements.
• Collaborate with the Executive Director and program staff to align funding narratives with Birmingham Corps' mission of building a diverse, competitive, and civic-minded talent pipeline and driving inclusive economic growth across the region.
• Build and nurture relationships with program officers and institutional funders across the Central Alabama region and beyond.
• Manage the Birmingham Corps AmeriCorps grant, including compliance reporting, member documentation, match tracking, and coordination with the Alabama Governor's Office of Volunteer Services (GOVS) for FY27 and beyond.

Donor Relations Support

• Support donor stewardship efforts by tracking individual giving history, identifying lapsed donors, and flagging upgrade opportunities for the Executive Director.
• Craft personalized acknowledgment letters, impact updates, and stewardship communications that reflect Birmingham Corps' voice and values.
• Assist with donor-facing correspondence and ensure timely, accurate follow-up on giving activity.

Events, Campaigns & Community Outreach

• Partner with program staff to develop compelling narratives and promotional content aligned with Birmingham Corps' brand in support of community engagement activations.
• Track event and campaign performance metrics and provide data to inform reporting and organizational decision-making.

Operations, Database & Administration

• Manage timely and accurate gift processing, including tax receipts and CRM data entry
• Maintain and optimize the donor database to ensure data integrity, generate reports, and support decision-making
• Support the Executive Director with board development materials, funder presentations, and other administrative development needs

Qualifications

Required

• Bachelor's degree in nonprofit management, communications, public administration, or a related field — or equivalent professional experience.
• 3–5 years of experience in nonprofit development, fundraising, or a closely related role.
• Demonstrated success in grant writing and management, including securing institutional gifts.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to craft compelling narratives for diverse audiences.
• Proficiency with CRM and donor management software (e.g., Monday.com, Zeffy, DonorPerfect) Google Workspace, and Office Suite.
• Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
• Deep commitment to equity, civic engagement, and the belief that recognizing talent and expanding opportunity creates lasting impact for Birmingham and Central Alabama.

Preferred

• Familiarity with the Birmingham philanthropic and civic ecosystem, including local foundations, corporate giving programs, and community organizations.
• Prior AmeriCorps grant management experience.
• Experience co-planning fundraising events and executing digital giving campaigns.
• Understanding of workforce development, talent pipeline initiatives, or public-private partnership models that span public, private, and nonprofit sectors.
• Connections to Greater Birmingham's economic development priorities or other regional civic initiatives a plus.

All roles for Birmingham Corps are based in Birmingham, AL 35203 with a hybrid operations schedule. Little to no travel is required.
