Director of People and Culture

Southern Arizona AIDS Foundation

Summary: The Director of People and Culture (DPC) is a leadership position within Southern Arizona AIDS Foundation (SAAF) who is responsible for all human resources functions and the lawful, consistent practice of all applicable employment laws and SAAF policies within the organization. The DPC manages the Department of People and Culture and is responsible for its work product; leads and is responsible for, in partnership with the CEO, setting and modeling aspirational culture of the organization; and functions as a leader, support, and resource for all of the Executive Leadership Team in the areas of employee relations, compensation, employee benefits, and organizational/cultural strategy.Primary Job Duties:Perform and supervise consistent administration of all SAAF human resources policies and functions.Leads and develops human resources staff and is responsible for the strategy for professional development of all staff.Conducts or oversees investigations into workplace matters, including employee relations issues, complaints of discrimination, performance related issues.Guides and educates on all human resources matters, including updates on policy and law, performance review practices, safety in the workplace,Ensures adequate and functional Human Resources Information System (HRIS), maintenance and completeness of personnel files, including staff medical files related to employment, and benefits management systems and relationships.Leads DPC team and SAAF staff on organizational culture, standards for professionalism, and performance review practice including corrective action.Supports leadership teams, managers, and supervisors during staff improvement conversations, corrective action, and termination.Leads and communicates all SAAF human resources policy, including training on compliance, changes, and updates.Leads and conducts employee relations activities, including meetings, investigations, mediations, and other forms of conflict resolution.Advises and strategizes with members of the leadership team and the CEO as in-house expert on employment law, policies, and best practice.Leads and advises on employee compensation practice and method, benefits evaluation, negotiation, and selection.Leads and advises on all training and application of anti-discrimination policy, DEIB training and practice.Other Job Duties:Leads and advises on career development for SAAF staff within the organization.Maintains currency in all employment laws, human resources best practice, DEIB strategies and issues.Maintains currency for all policies and practices in compliance with all applicable laws.Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Social Services, Information Systems, or a closely related field.At least five (5) years of progressively more complicated management experience.At least seven (7) years’ experience in a human resources or employment law leadership level position.At least two (2) years of program management experience for projects with diverse sets of stakeholders.HRCI – SPHR Certification, SHRM- SCP Certification.DEIB training experience.Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the organizations HRIS and talent management systems.Extensive presentation experience in complicated topics to large groups and to sophisticated audience members.Ability and experience coaching at all levels with an emphasis on coaching at the executive level.Access to a reliable vehicle, a valid AZ Driver’s License and a driving record that will be supported by our liability insurance provider.Preferred Qualifications:Master’s Degree in a business, finance, human resources, Juris Doctorate, or field-related terminal degree.Ten (10) years’ experience in a human resources executive or leadership role.At least 1 year of experience in DEIB change management.At least 2 years of experience in a non-profit.Experience in executive recruiting and retention, benefits selection and management, use of modern HRIS, whole organization compensation analysis, and organization wide policy drafting.Experience in change management specifically in high attrition situations or long-serving executive turnover.Mediation and Conflict Resolution training and experience.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills.Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.Strong supervisory and leadership skills.Ability to adapt to the needs of the organization and employees.Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.Working Conditions/Physical Demands:Operate in a professional office environment and requires the ability to sit for long periods of time with intermittent walking, standing, bending, squatting, pulling, and pushing. Requires the ability to use standard office equipment such as scanners, computers, keyboards, phones, shredders, photocopiers, and filing cabinets. Requires travelling on occasion as needed between SAAF campuses and other locations.Physical Requirements:This job is a sedentary job, as defined by the Social Security Administration, CFR.CFR 404.1567 Physical exertion requirements:(a) Sedentary work: Sedentary work involves lifting no more than 10 pounds at a time and occasionally lifting or carrying articles like docket files, ledgers, and small tools. Although a sedentary job is defined as one which involves sitting, a certain amount of walking and standing is often necessary in carrying out job duties.
