These functions include participating in a multidisciplinary team approach to patient care, providing a safe and therapeutic environment, and documenting care. The counselor will demonstrate knowledge of developmental stages and apply developmental theories and concepts when planning and implementing activities. As a Counselor II, the individual will assist in onboarding and precepting new counseling staff, and participate in additional Baystate and program initiatives. The counselor is expected to adhere to system and department compliance policies, and all applicable laws and regulations. Job Responsibilities Participate in multidisciplinary team approach to patient care; review admission and progress notes to develop patient understanding; collaborate with the team in evaluating patients, planning therapy and developing treatment goals; attend weekly treatment meetings and provide input on patient progress; assist team members and follow through on team decisions; demonstrate effective use of behavior management principles and collaborative problem‑solving techniques. Provide a safe environment; be PMT – Physical/Psychological Management Trained within 30 days of hire; intervene appropriately during crisis situations by providing direct and indirect support to patients needing restraint and/or seclusion; maintain safety by adhering to behavior management principles and techniques; conduct daily sharps checks and report hazards immediately to supervisors. Document patient mental status, social behavior, and progress toward goals daily; record ongoing assessments of patients, including safety, treatment objectives, and other necessary information via EMR as dictated by policy; document restraints and seclusions in accordance with policies; support program philosophy and adhere to policies, procedures and standards. Provide a therapeutic milieu; assess patient mental status, social and symptomatic behavior throughout treatment; counsel patients with empathy and respect to assist them in achieving treatment goals; identify group topics aligned with patient goals; lead group sessions based on appropriate developmental stages; implement teaching and special approaches as needed; adhere to guidelines regarding self‑disclosure with patients; demonstrate trauma‑informed care principles and collaborative problem‑solving; refer physical problems to RN for assessment and intervention. Demonstrate accountability for personal and professional growth; attend all mandatory in‑services annually; collaborate with supervisors to identify professional goals and seek experiences to achieve them; assist with identifying program in‑service needs. Support program development in collaboration with the behavioral health clinician and program supervisors; provide new ideas for groups and unit activities; facilitate and lead groups and unit activities. Help develop and update yearly counselor competencies based on age and development in accordance with JCAHO regulations. Complete department‑specified de‑escalation training within 30 days of hire. Typically, a new hire can expect a starting salary somewhere in the lower part of the range. Actual salaries may vary by position and will be determined based on the candidate's relevant experience. No employee will be paid below the minimum of the range. Pay ranges are listed as hourly for non‑exempt employees and based on assumed full‑time commitment for exempt employees.
