Job Title: CNC Programmer / Machinist

Job Description

This role focuses on programming, setting up, operating, and maintaining CNC and manual machine tools to manufacture precision gears and components. You will develop efficient machining programs, produce high-quality parts, troubleshoot machining and programming issues, and actively support continuous improvement in a fast-paced precision manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

• Program, set up, and operate CNC lathes, mills, grinders, gear cutting, and gear grinding machines, as well as other machine tools.
• Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, CAD models, and GD&T to ensure accurate machining of parts.
• Create, edit, and optimize CNC programs to maximize quality, efficiency, and throughput.
• Select appropriate tooling, establish speeds and feeds, and verify machine setups before production runs.
• Inspect finished parts using appropriate measuring equipment to confirm they meet all quality and dimensional requirements.
• Troubleshoot machine and programming issues and implement effective corrective actions to minimize downtime.
• Perform routine machine maintenance and maintain tooling, fixtures, and measuring equipment in good working condition.
• Complete production and quality documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
• Collaborate closely with engineering, quality, and production teams to meet customer specifications and delivery requirements.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area in accordance with shop standards.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives, including process optimization and standardization.
• Assist with training and knowledge sharing with colleagues as experience and proficiency grow.
• Commit to learning specialized, niche machining processes and equipment, including non-typical German machine brands, over an extended training period.

Essential Skills

• Strong mechanical aptitude and proven problem-solving skills in a machining environment.
• Hands-on experience with CNC programming and machining operations on lathes, milling machines, grinders, and related equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, CAD models, and GD&T.
• Strong working knowledge of machining and machine setup, including lathes, milling machines, gear cutting, and gear grinding machines.
• High attention to detail and a strong commitment to producing high-quality, precise parts.
• Ability to work independently while effectively collaborating with engineering, quality, and production teams.
• Demonstrated commitment to safety and continuous improvement in a manufacturing setting.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Willingness to learn and train over an extended period, including up to two years of on-the-job training due to the specialized nature of the machining work.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with CAD/CAM software, with SolidCam experience being a significant plus.
• CMM (coordinate measuring machine) experience preferred.
• Experience working in a precision manufacturing environment preferred.
• Exposure to 5-axis machining operations preferred.
• Ability to adapt to and learn niche machining processes and non-standard machine brands, including German-manufactured equipment.
• Comfort working with gears, grinding operations, and complex machining setups.

Work Environment

The position is based in a large machine shop environment focused on precision manufacturing. You will work around CNC lathes, mills, grinders, gear cutting and gear grinding machines, including specialized equipment from non-typical German brands. Steel-toed boots are required for safety. Jeans and t-shirts are acceptable daily attire, and a uniform service is available for those who prefer a standard work uniform. The role requires on-site presence during working hours, with frequent walking and standing throughout the shift and periods of remaining stationary while operating equipment. You will regularly use arms, hands, fingers, legs, and feet to reach, bend, lift, carry, and step over obstacles. The job involves frequent lifting, pushing, and pulling of objects weighing 50 pounds or more and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds without assistance. Visual acuity is important, including close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception, to safely and accurately perform machining and inspection tasks.

This is a Permanent position based out of Princeton, IN.

The pay range for this position is $62400.00 - $72800.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
