Preconstruction Manager

Summary

This role leads preconstruction efforts from early concept through project award, driving estimating strategy, budgeting accuracy, and bid execution. The Preconstruction Manager will collaborate closely with leadership, clients, and internal teams to define project scope, evaluate design options, and ensure competitive, profitable estimates. This is a hybrid role offering both strategic oversight and hands-on estimating responsibility within a fast-paced commercial construction environment.

Responsibilities

• Partner with leadership to identify project opportunities and develop bidding strategies

• Manage preconstruction pipeline activity and maintain estimating/bid databases

• Develop accurate estimates, cost studies, and project recommendations

• Review drawings, specifications, and bid documents to define project scope

• Evaluate design options and recommend cost-effective construction solutions

• Incorporate historical cost data and productivity metrics into estimates

• Ensure estimate accuracy, completeness, and alignment with margin goals

• Conduct site visits and collaborate with field teams on budgeting and cost tracking

• Oversee departmental workflow, budgeting, and staffing coordination

• Lead project hand-off meetings to transition work to construction teams

• Support contract negotiations, change orders, and scope adjustments

• Provide technical guidance to estimators and project teams

• Participate in client presentations and maintain key stakeholder relationships

• Mentor and support preconstruction and estimating staff development

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred

• 5+ years of experience in construction estimating and/or preconstruction

• Strong knowledge of commercial construction methods, pricing, and delivery models

• Proven leadership and team coordination experience

• Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills

• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
