Job Summary

Join the dynamic Emergency Department team at MVHS-Wynn in Utica, New York. This 64-bed unit, comprising 2 Triage, 40 acute, 6 super track, 2 Trauma, 10 CDU, and 6 psych beds, provides comprehensive care to a diverse patient population ranging from newborns to geriatrics. The unit frequently manages high-acuity cases including Stroke, Sepsis, Trauma, Myocardial Infarction (MI), Cardiac Arrest, and Respiratory Failure.

As an Emergency Department Registered Nurse, you will be integral to delivering critical care in a fast-paced environment. You will be responsible for rapid assessment, intervention, and stabilization of patients presenting with a wide array of emergent conditions, utilizing specialized equipment and advanced medication protocols to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct, compassionate, and evidence-based nursing care to patients across the lifespan (Newborn, Pediatric, Adult, Geriatric) in an emergency setting.
• Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, develop individualized care plans, and implement timely interventions for critical conditions such as Stroke, Sepsis, Trauma, MI, Cardiac Arrest, and Respiratory Failure.
• Administer a wide range of medications and drips, including Pressors (Levophed, Neo, Epi, Vasopressin, Dobutamine, Dopamine), Vasodilators (Cleviprex, Cardene, NTG), Anti-arrhythmics (Cardizem, Amiodarone, Lido), Sedation (Precedex, Propofol, Fentanyl), TNK, Heparin, and Insulin.
• Operate and monitor specialized equipment such as Rapid Infusors and Arctic Sun.
• Accurately document all patient care activities, assessments, and interventions within the EPIC Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
• Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams to ensure coordinated and holistic patient care.
• Float to other units within the facility as required by patient census and operational needs.

Required Qualifications

• Active and unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York State.
• Minimum of 2 years of recent, acute care experience as an Emergency Department RN.
• Demonstrated experience providing care to pediatric patients within an ED setting.
• Prior travel nursing experience is required.
• Proficiency with EPIC Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
• Current AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Current AHA Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Current AHA Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
• Current National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
• Current Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification.

Preferred Qualifications

• Demonstrated Charge Nurse capability.

Skills & Competencies

• Clinical Skills: Advanced cardiac life support, pediatric advanced life support, trauma nursing, stroke assessment, critical care medication administration (e.g., pressors, anti-arrhythmics, sedatives, insulin, heparin), rapid assessment, triage, wound care, IV insertion, phlebotomy.
• Equipment: Rapid Infusor, Arctic Sun, cardiac monitors, defibrillators, ventilators (basic understanding for ED stabilization).
