About Us

SumIt is accounting software for family offices — firms that manage hundreds of legal entities for a single wealthy family or a number of families. The work is data dense: ledgers with thousands of lines, transactions across dozens of accounts, financial statements that roll up cleanly across the whole structure.

The design problem we’re dealing with: make insights from dense data feel obvious.

You'll spend your days on screens like these: a 10,000-row general ledger that has to feel scannable. A journal entry workflow that handles 50 lines without breaking flow. A multi-entity consolidation view where the relationships between fifteen LLCs and three trusts make sense at a glance.

Family offices have spent decades duct-taping NetSuite, QuickBooks, and spreadsheets into something workable. We're building the alternative.

Location

We have a dedicated office in Brooklyn, right in Dumbo, where the founders come in about three times a week. New York based folks are welcome to use this space, but it's not required. For remote folks, we make sure to get the whole team together at least once every six months.

• First 2 weeks: Tuesday-Thursday in-office for onboarding

The Role

Our first full-time product designer. Owns product design, the design system, and our brand. Reports to Fernando (CTO), with a dotted line to Alex (CEO) for marketing. This is a mid-level role with a clear path to senior. We hire on trajectory and back the bet with equity.

We pay attention to how Linear, Mercury, and Notion handle dense product UI. We want our work to belong on that shelf.

What you'll do

• Lead design on the features that matter most each cycle — partnership accounting, bank feed matching, journal entry workflows, and whatever the roadmap demands next
• Take our design system (currently Figma) from "started" to "usable" — the kind of system a builder pulls from on a Tuesday afternoon without thinking about it
• Pair tightly with engineers, prototype in code (v0, Lovable, raw HTML/CSS) when the design needs to feel real, and work directly with engineers to refine UX
• Run or join customer interviews. Family-office controllers will tell you exactly what's broken if you let them. Your job is to turn that into screens and workflows that hold up under the real data volume.
• Bring consistency to our brand surfaces — the website, marketing assets, the deck we pitch investors with, the booth at conferences, swag, etc.
• Help establish design critique, the design to engineering handoff, and Figma standards as the team grows

Who you are

• A designer with strong product instincts (3+ years shipping software, with a portfolio that includes data-dense interfaces — tables, grids, ledgers, financial workflows)
• Someone who has contributed substantially to a design system and is ready to own one
• AI-native: you already prototype with Cursor, Claude, or v0, and you use AI to synthesize research
• A builder who codes prototypes when a Figma file won't carry the idea — comfortable in HTML, CSS, and the browser inspector
• Opinionated about UX, with a portfolio you're proud to defend
• A peer to product and engineering — someone who'd rather sit next to an engineer for an hour or push back on the PM than throw a Figma file over the wall

Why this role

• You'd be the first full-time designer at a 10-person company that ships every day. No design-by-committee, no Figma review purgatory.
• We work in Hotwire + TailwindCSS (server-rendered Rails). Your prototypes can be real HTML and CSS in the actual app, and your design ships in the same files as the engineering.
• AI is already in our workflow. The team uses Claude Code, Codex, and other AI tools daily. Bring your own opinions.
• Customers are family-office controllers running real money on the product. The feedback loop is short and honest in the best way.

Compensation

• Base $150K - $175K
• Equity 0.10% - 0.20% - top of band, first-of-function premium
• Healthcare, dental, vision, 401k (3% automatic contribution)
• Take time when you need it. We close for US federal holidays, the last week of August, and the week between Christmas and New Year's.

Final offer depends on experience, scope, and internal equity. We don't lowball, and we don't overpromise.
