Job Summary:

The Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) performs a wide range of laboratory tests in a high-volume, acute care setting, serving a diverse patient population from newborns to geriatrics. This role requires versatility across multiple departmental functions, ensuring accurate and timely results to support diagnosis, treatment, and disease prevention.

Responsibilities:

• 
  Conduct moderate and highly complex testing in Chemistry, Coagulation, Hematology, and Microbiology using appropriate analytical methods.
  
  
• 
  Review quality control data to maintain accuracy, interpret trends, and implement corrective actions as needed.
  
  
• 
  Calibrate, adjust, and perform preventive maintenance on laboratory equipment in compliance with regulations.
  
  
• 
  Provide technical guidance and interpretative support to clinical staff regarding laboratory reports and critical values.
  
  
• 
  Supervise and assist laboratory staff, ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards.
  
  
• 
  Contribute to performance improvement initiatives and participate actively in proficiency testing.
  
  

Qualifications:

• 
  Hold valid certification as a Medical Laboratory Technologist, CLS, or equivalent.
  
  
• 
  Demonstrate at least 2 years of relevant laboratory experience in a similar acute care environment.
  
  
• 
  Possess knowledge of clinical chemistry, hematology, urinalysis, microscopy, and transfusion services.
  
  
• 
  Maintain current BLS and ASCP certifications with up-to-date expiration dates.
  
  
• 
  Be able to work independently in a fast-paced, complex setting, demonstrating critical thinking and decisive judgment.
  
  
• 
  Hold a valid California State License and comply with required travel and compliance standards.
