What We’re Looking For We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Registered Veterinary Technician or Senior Veterinary Assistant with experience in urgent or emergency care. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical skills, clinical knowledge, and a passion for providing outstanding patient care. Requirements Current and valid California RVT license OR 5+ years of veterinary nursing experience Proficiency in animal handling, restraint, and nursing care Solid knowledge of veterinary medical terminology and procedures Experience with diagnostic equipment, including radiology and lab equipment Excellent communication and client education skills Ability to remain calm and effective in a fast‑paced environment Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays on a rotating basis Prior experience in urgent care or emergency veterinary settings is highly desirable Must maintain or obtain California Veterinary Assistant Controlled Substance Permit (VACSP) within 60 days of hire (waived for RVTs) Responsibilities Perform triage and administer immediate care to incoming patients Collect and record patient history, vital signs, and presenting symptomsAssist veterinarians during medical procedures and treatments Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as directed Conduct laboratory tests including blood work, urinalysis, and cytology Monitor patients under sedation or recovering from procedures Educate clients on home care and medication administration Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records Perform accurate mathematical calculations for medications, CRIs, invoices, and estimates Communicate with professionalism, empathy, and discretion in all interactions Compensation RVT: $25.00 – $40.00 per hour SVA: $25.00 – $36.00 per hour Additional: $5.50 differential for any hours worked between 6pm-6am Benefits Competitive wages based on experience Annual CE allowance for Vet Assistants and RVTs License application and renewal reimbursement for RVTs Onsite mentorship and financial support toward VTS certification In‑house RACE‑approved courses and development opportunities Paid continuing education and eligible coursework Health, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance Flexible spending accounts (FSAs) 401(k) retirement plan with employer contributions Paid vacation, sick time, and holidays Employee Assistance Program (EAP) Uniforms provided Cash bonuses for career milestones, including RVT or VTS certification Take the Next Step Join SAGE Redwood City and become part of a team committed to excellence in veterinary medicine.
