Job Description

This role focuses on performing in-process inspections of armored vehicles and components to ensure they meet established quality and fabrication standards. You will verify sub-assemblies, welding, and final products, maintain detailed documentation, and support continuous improvement efforts within a manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform in-process inspections of armored vehicles and related components throughout the fabrication process.

• Verify sub-assembly installations and final welding to ensure they meet required standards and specifications.

• Conduct in-process checks of parts, including verifying bends, welds, assemblies, and final products for accuracy and quality.

• Maintain accurate records of part assemblies, quality checks, and each step of the fabrication process.

• Maintain traceability records for armor plate heat lots and ballistic test plates to ensure full documentation and compliance.

• Create and provide visual aids to support sub-assemblies and assist production teams in understanding quality requirements.

• Actively participate in identifying and implementing strategies to reduce errors and improve overall quality.

• Expedite the movement of parts through the fabrication process by coordinating inspection activities and minimizing delays.

• Use micrometers, calipers, gauges, and protractors to perform precise measurements and inspections.

• Interpret blueprints and other technical documents to verify that parts and assemblies meet design specifications.

• Perform visual inspections to identify defects, nonconformances, or deviations from standards.

• Document inspection results using computer-based systems and ensure all quality records are complete and accurate.

Essential Skills

• 2–3 years of experience in quality and inspecting within a manufacturing environment.

• Proficiency in using micrometers, calipers, gauges, and protractors for precision measurements.

• Experience with quality control, quality assurance, and quality inspection processes.

• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.

• Strong documentation skills and ability to maintain accurate quality and traceability records.

• Computer skills to enter, manage, and retrieve inspection and production data.

• Attention to detail and strong visual inspection skills.

• Ability to work effectively in a manufacturing setting and follow established procedures.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience working with armored vehicles or similar heavy manufacturing products is beneficial.

• Familiarity with maintaining traceability records for materials and test plates.

• Experience supporting continuous improvement and error-reduction initiatives.

• Comfort working with general labor tasks related to inspection and fabrication support.

• Strong communication skills to collaborate with fabrication and production teams.

• Ability to create and use visual aids to support assembly and inspection processes.

Work Environment

This position is based in a temperature-controlled, well-organized manufacturing facility. You will work on-site on a first-shift schedule, Monday through Friday, from 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The environment emphasizes order, cleanliness, and structured processes, supporting efficient inspections and fabrication activities. You will regularly use precision tools such as micrometers, calipers, gauges, and protractors, and work closely with production teams on the shop floor.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Chicago, IL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $28.00/hr.
