Walla is a remote-first, pre-Series B SaaS platform serving 800+ boutique fitness studios — yoga, Pilates, and barre — with software that helps them run their business end to end. The Opportunity We're hiring a Sr Staff Accountant to own billing, accounts receivable, and collections for our client base, while also supporting core month-end close, reconciliation, and reporting work. This is a hands-on role for someone who understands accounting fundamentals — the mechanics of the P&L and balance sheet, how transactions flow through close — but who is just as comfortable on a call with a client resolving an invoice question as they are reconciling a QuickBooks account. You'll work cross-departmentally with Sales, Customer Success, and Operations, and report directly to the VP of Operations. You’ll Thrive Here If You… Get real satisfaction from a clean reconciliation and a closed month Can deliver an awkward billing or collections conversation with a client and have them still like you afterward Like owning a full process end to end rather than handing off pieces of it Are comfortable being the only accounting person in the room on most days Ask "why" when a number looks off instead of just moving on Don't need a big team or a lot of structure around you to stay organized and get things done What You’ll Do Billing & Accounts Receivable Own the end-to-end client billing cycle — invoice generation, billing accuracy, and timely delivery — working cross-departmentally with Sales and Customer Success to resolve billing setup issues before they reach clients. Manage AR collections: monitor aging, follow up on past-due accounts, and elevate appropriately while protecting the client relationship. Serve as a friendly, professional point of contact for client billing and collections questions — resolving disputes and payment issues with clear, courteous communication. Accounting & Close Map and code expenses and transactions to the proper accounts in QuickBooks Online (QBO). Perform month-end close tasks: journal entries, account reconciliations (bank, AR, prepaid, accrual accounts), and supporting schedules. Support the accuracy of the P&L and balance sheet by applying sound accrual-accounting judgment and flagging discrepancies. Calculate monthly sales commissions in line with plan terms, coordinating with Sales leadership on inputs and exceptions. Maintain and update recurring finance spreadsheets, including MRR/revenue waterfall reporting and other management reporting tools. Assist with ad hoc financial analysis, audit support, and process improvement projects as Walla scales toward Series B. What We’re Looking For 5+ years of progressive accounting experience; comfortable operating at a Sr Staff Accountant level or above. Solid grasp of core finance principles — double-entry accounting, accrual vs. cash, and how transactions flow through the P&L and balance sheet. Hands‑on month-end close experience: journal entries, reconciliations, and close checklists. Proficiency in QuickBooks Online; comfortable learning and troubleshooting within a company's chart of accounts. Advanced Excel/Google Sheets skills (pivot tables, lookups, waterfall/reconciliation models). A genuinely client‑friendly communication style — able to have direct billing and collections conversations with clients while staying warm and professional. Strong organization and follow‑through; comfortable owning a process with minimal oversight in a remote, small‑team environment. Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred. Nice to Have Experience in a subscription/SaaS business (recurring revenue, MRR concepts). Experience with Stripe or another payments platform. Exposure to sales commission plan administration. CPA‑track or progress toward CPA/CMA.
