Assistant Terminal Manager The Assistant Terminal Manager at STA is an on‑site role responsible for daily operations in each terminal. He or she reports directly to the Terminal Manager and maintains communication with corporate contacts such as the General Manager, Vice President, ROAM, Finance Director, and Human Resources. The ATM delegates tasks to Dispatchers, Clerical Staff, and mechanics and plays an important part of the Management Staff, having a direct line to our most valuable asset, our people. Job Details Job‑Type: Full‑Time Location: 569 3rd Ave Ext, Rensselaer, NY 12144 Pay Range: $68,000 - $73,000 Daily Duties Ensure the safety of all children and passengers on our equipment is held above all else. Evaluate employees and offer suggestions on ways to improve performance when needed. Maintain a complete list of phone numbers and contact information for each person in each terminal for use in emergency situations or other situations where contact is needed. Identify all training needs, participate in all training provided by corporate, and complete any training as noted by corporate training representatives. Check runs and staffing – ensure all runs are staffed and no runs are left open. Work with dispatchers to ensure every run is covered. Contact other terminals as needed for personnel or extra staff. Maintain close interaction and communication with peers. Collaborate and consult with each other at least daily. No one should ever be sent home with no work when another terminal is lacking drivers. Check all messages (telephone, email, mail, other) and respond accordingly. Return all calls and messages as appropriate. Check email several times a day and reply promptly. Work on recruiting daily. Document and track terminal days and runs daily to facilitate billing sheets at month‑end. Enforce COVID restrictions in the terminal as required. Evaluate, approve, or deny all time off requests for employees, considering monthly leave availability, existing staffing, and limitations on simultaneous absences. Check staffing for the next several days and be proactive. Ensure all runs are staffed at all times. Ensure all ST Pay is up to date. Meet with dispatchers daily to address needs that will improve team success. Consult with the Charter Coordinator and ensure adequate staffing for every charter in every terminal. Use company web platforms as needed. Monitor overtime daily and keep it to a minimum. Overtime must be maintained within policy limits each school year. Adhere to terminal monthly P&L expectations. Refer to the Employee Handbook daily for guidance on many situations. Keep a printed copy in plain sight in each terminal. Refer to policies and procedures on the company intranet for direction. Contact the manager if an issue cannot be found there. Ensure that all buses are sanitized daily and that the terminal remains clean. This responsibility lies with the ATM, though the work may be performed by others. Ensure all notifications to drivers are made and that all essential paperwork is forwarded daily. This is ultimately the ATM’s responsibility. Ensure daily runs are on time and not billed back with penalties. Investigate and address any chronic lateness. Ensure all PPE is available to employees. The ATM holds ultimate responsibility for this, even though others may complete the tasks. Interact with employees in all terminals. Know their motivations and locate ways to retain them. Explore innovative retention strategies and collaborate with the team before implementation. Work toward the goal of Zero Accidents, an objective that can be achieved through proactive measures by the ATM.
