Automation Engineer 3, BMS/VDS

Position Overview The Automation Engineer 3, BMS/VDS provides support for the sitewide Building Management System (BMS) and Validated Data System (VDS). This includes implementation of changes to the utility and facility automation systems, updating design documents, executing testing, troubleshooting events, and providing on‑call support. The role participates in and may lead projects and medium‑ to complex‑level changes while coordinating with internal and external stakeholders. Job Description What You'll Do Perform automation activities such as system administration, code configuration, document and software development, test execution, change control, maintaining system documentation, interacting with system vendors, and routine maintenance and upgrades. Develop, review, and maintain various specification documents (e.g., URS, FS, DQ). Develop, review, and maintain various test protocols and functional testing documents (e.g., IQ, OQ). Create standard code utilizing complex control strategies. Deliver accurate and on‑time automation work while maintaining GMP compliance aspects of validated systems. Participate in audits with customer representatives and regulatory agencies, as needed. Collaborate with other departments such as Manufacturing, Maintenance, Instrumentation & Controls (I&C), and Validation. Provide training, guidance, and present information to the team or other stakeholders. Serve as on‑call support for automation inquiries and troubleshooting. Perform other duties as assigned. Knowledge and Skills Effective communication, both written and oral. Knowledge of GMP regulations. Advanced problem‑solving skills. Ability to effectively present and explain knowledge of several automation subject areas to internal partners. Willingness to provide feedback to others, including leaders. Ability to support a 24/7 manufacturing facility, including on‑call obligations, as needed. Basic Requirements Bachelor’s degree in chemical, electrical, mechanical engineering, or another relevant field with 5 years of applicable industry experience (e.g., automation, I&C); or Master’s degree in a technical field relevant to automation; or I&C with 3 years of applicable industry experience (e.g., automation, I&C). Preferred Experience working in a GMP or other highly regulated environment. Working Conditions & Physical Requirements Work may require respiratory protection and hearing protection; may involve operation of motor vehicles or powered industrial trucks. Ability to discern audible cues, inspect with 20/20 corrected vision, and discriminate color. Ability to ascend or descend ladders, scaffolding, and ramps. Ability to stand for prolonged periods and sit for prolonged periods. Ability to perform repetitive motions involving wrists, hands, and fingers. Ability to operate machinery and power tools. Ability to move objects up to 33 pounds and to bend, push or pull, reach materials, and use twisting motions.
