Full-Time | Excellent Benefits | Leadership Role Assistant Director, Public Utilities - What You’ll Do The City of Fredericksburg seeks a qualified professional to help manage water distribution and sanitary sewer conveyance and treatment systems in the Department of Public Utilities. In this role you will support essential operations through: Guiding department operations and collaborating on the development of departmental goals and objectives; managing utility maintenance and overseeing system renovations and replacements. Assisting in the development and monitoring of department operational budgets and capital improvement projects; serving on the project team for the city’s Wastewater Treatment Plant renovation. Overseeing daily utilities operations and ensuring compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, policies, procedures, and standards. Preparing and collaborating on regulatory reports and presenting department operations and projects to City Council and other stakeholder groups. Why Join the Fredericksburg Team? Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in engineering, environmental science, or a related field. Six to nine years of progressive, responsible experience in public utilities operations and administration or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Valid Virginia state driver’s license (or ability to obtain within 6 months). Preferred Qualifications Registration as a Professional Engineer in Virginia (or ability to obtain within 6 months). VDEQ Waterworks and Wastewater Works Operators Licenses. Project Management Professional certification.
