Job Title: Waste Ops Compliance Specialist II/III Compensation: Grade 32 : $100,562-$122,909 Grade 34: $118,151-$144,372 West Valley Cleanup Alliance is the prime contractor selected by the U.S. Department of Energy to manage the Phase 1B Deactivation & Demolition Contract at the West Valley Demonstration Project site. The site is a scenic 30-minute drive south of Buffalo, New York. In cooperation with the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, West Valley Demonstration Project continues to decontaminate and decommission facilities at this site. Our benefit and compensation package includes: Competitive pay and opportunity for variable pay incentives Extensive benefit offerings focused on your physical, financial, and emotional wellness 401(k) savings plan with a 50% employer match up to 6%, plus an additional 6% automatic employer contribution for eligible employees—for a total potential company contribution of 9%. 4-day workweek (10 hours per day) for most positions Atmosphere fostering work life balance JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE OF POSITION The Waste Ops Compliance Specialist II/III is responsible for ensuring waste operations and management activities comply with all applicable federal, state, local, and company regulations, orders, policies and procedures. This role supports operational excellence by monitoring compliance, maintaining documentation, conducting audits, and partnering with operations personnel to ensure safe handling, storage, transportation, and disposal of various levels of waste materials. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Grade 32 Education/Experience: BS in environmental science, engineering, chemistry, occupational safety, or an equivalent combination of education and experience Minimum of four (4) years related experience Waste operations, nuclear, or hazardous facility operations experience preferred Licenses/Certifications: None Other Requirements: Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills Working knowledge of RCRA, DOT hazardous materials regulations, OSHA, and environmental permitting Excellent verbal and written communication skills Strong computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft 365 Grade 34 Education/Experience: BS in environmental science, engineering, chemistry, occupational safety, or an equivalent combination of education and experience Minimum of ten (10) years of related experience Waste operations, nuclear, or hazardous facility operations experience preferred Licenses/Certifications: None Other Requirements: Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills Working knowledge of RCRA, DOT hazardous materials regulations, OSHA, and environmental permitting Familiarity with Low Level Waste, Mixed Low-Level Waste, or Transuranic waste handling fundamentals and Documented Safety Analysis (DSA) preferred Excellent verbal and written communication skills Strong computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft 365 The salary and grade level offered to the selected candidate will be based on the candidate’s education, training, and/or relevant experience. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/SCOPE OF WORK Grade 32 Maintain a safe and healthful work environment by following established safe work practices and procedures; including following all safety rules, using proper personal protective equipment (PPE), investigating and reporting identified safety concerns or situations. Adhere to standards contained in the Company “Code of Conduct,” Company EEO practices, and DOE directives. Ensure compliance with Documented Safety Analysis (DSA) and accurately implement DSA controls, waste handling requirements, and operational drivers in company procedures. Maintain comprehensive working knowledge of waste operating facilities function including equipment, processing steps, controls, sequencing, and facility specific hazards. Provide technical guidance to supervisors and operators to ensure work aligns with DSA driven controls and hazards. Assist in ensuring operational activities comply with Technical Safety Requirements (TSRs), Limiting Conditions of Operations (LCOs), and safety management program requirements. Support translation of DSA derived controls into actionable field expectations and ensure procedures are reflected accurately. Verify procedures are accurate, current, and aligned with operational, programmatic, and DSA driven requirements. Conduct field assessments of Remote Handled Waste Facility (RHWF), Waste Processing Area (WPA), storage areas, container prep operations, and logistic activities to confirm compliance. Participate in readiness reviews, self-assessments, and corrective action management. Provide compliance expertise during planning, scheduling, troubleshooting, and operational coordination activities. Assist in the development of training content related to facility operations, DSA drive requirements, and procedure use. Ensure all training and qualifications are up to date, attend educational workshops, and participate in professional societies.
