Terminal Superintendent
Logistec
Are you a hands-on operations leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment where no two days are the same? We’re looking for a Terminal Superintendent to play a key leadership role at our Baltimore terminal and help drive safe, efficient, and successful warehouse operations.
This is more than managing a warehouse where you will be at the heart of the operation, leading teams, partnering with customers and terminal stakeholders, solving challenges in real time, and keeping cargo moving safely and efficiently. You’ll have the opportunity to develop people, drive productivity, build strong labor relationships, and make meaningful improvements to the operation.
If you’re energized by people leadership, operational challenges, teamwork, and the fast pace of the maritime industry, this is an opportunity to make a visible impact and help shape the continued success of our Baltimore terminal.
Take this opportunity and come do great things with us!
What do you gain from being part of LOGISTEC?
- Competitive compensation
- Benefits and 401(k)
- Opportunities for career growth and professional development
Responsibilities
What your day looks like as a Terminal Superintendent:
Warehouse Operations
- Oversee daily warehouse operations, including receiving, storage, staging, segregation, loading, unloading, and shipment preparation.
- Ensure cargo is properly handled, stacked, identified, secured, and stored according to customer and operational requirements.
- Coordinate daily activities with dispatch, stevedoring, vessel operations, transportation providers, and customers.
- Monitor staffing, productivity, equipment utilization, and workflow to meet operational demands.
- Identify bottlenecks and implement solutions that improve efficiency and throughput.
- Ensure warehouse areas and equipment are clean, organized, and maintained in a safe condition.
- Coordinate weekend and extended-hour operations as needed.
Leadership & Labor Relations
- Lead, coach, and develop warehouse employees and front-line supervisors.
- Set clear expectations for productivity, attendance, safety, quality, and customer service.
- Ensure staffing levels align with workload and operational requirements.
- Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
- Build and maintain productive relationships with employees and union representatives.
- Work effectively within a unionized environment involving multiple bargaining units.
- Address workplace issues, grievances, scheduling concerns, and other labor matters in partnership with Human Resources and terminal leadership.
Safety & Compliance
- Champion a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with company, OSHA, terminal, and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Lead or support safety meetings, training, inspections, incident investigations, and corrective actions.
- Ensure employees are properly trained and qualified to perform their assigned duties.
- Promote safe material-handling practices and proper use of equipment and PPE.
- Maintain accurate safety and compliance documentation.
Customer & Operational Coordination
- Serve as a key operational contact for customers regarding warehouse activities, cargo movement, scheduling, and service issues.
- Partner with internal teams and customers to resolve operational challenges quickly and professionally.
- Ensure customer requirements and operational priorities are clearly communicated to the warehouse team.
- Support accurate inventory control, shipment coordination, documentation, and reporting.
- Provide terminal leadership with updates on staffing, productivity, operational challenges, and customer needs.
- Use company systems and technology to track performance and support operational decision-making.
Qualifications
- High school diploma required; an Associate’s degree in Business, Logistics, Supply Chain, Operations, or a related field is preferred. Equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
- Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in warehouse, terminal, logistics, distribution, or cargo-handling operations.
- Previous supervisory or management experience in a warehouse, terminal, distribution, manufacturing, transportation, or similar environment.
- Experience working in a unionized environment is strongly preferred.
- Experience with labor relations, collective bargaining agreements, or multiple bargaining units highly desirable.
- Maritime, port, stevedoring, breakbulk, bulk, or cargo-handling experience is a plus.
- Strong understanding of warehouse operations, cargo handling, inventory control, and workplace safety.
- Excellent communication, organization, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to prioritize competing demands in a fast-paced operational environment.
