Home Health AideThe Home Health Aide provides various personal care and related paraprofessional services in accordance with an established plan of care. Provides for the personal needs and comfort of clients in their homes.Essential FunctionsAdhere to Morgantown Area Private Duty, LLC Right at Home policies and procedures.Perform work under the supervision of a nurse supervisor.Perform personal care activities contained in a written assignment by the nurse supervisor which includes but is not limited to, assisting the client with activities of daily living, such as:Personal hygiene (assisting to bathroom or in using bedpan, bathing, care of mouth, skin and hair)AmbulationEatingDressingShavingMeal PreparationPerform other assigned activities that are taught by a Registered Nurse for a specific client. These include but not limited to:Assisting with the change of ostomy appliancesReinforcement of dressings (non-sterile)Assisting with the use of devices for aid to daily living (cane, walker, wheelchair or lift device)Assisting with prescribed range of motion exercisesAssisting with self-administered simple urine tests for sugar acetone or albumin (Home Health Aide may not interpret results)Measuring and preparing special dietsMeasuring intake and outputTaking vital signs (temperature, pulse, respirations and blood pressure)Application of an external (condom-type) catheterAssist with application of arm sling, arm splint or leg splintThe Home Health Aide Assistant will NOT perform any of the following:Sterile dressing changeIrrigation of body cavities such as enemas, colostomy or woundGastric lavage or gavageCatheterizationAdministration of oral medications, eye drops or medicated skin ointmentsAdministration parenteral or IV medicationsApplication of heat by any methodNaso-gastric or gastrostomy tube feedings or careTracheostomy tube careSuctioning of the nose, mouth or tracheostomyNail care on a client with diabetes or compromised circulationAny personal health service that has not been included on the paraprofessional task sheetThe Home Health Aide / Certified Nursing Assistant may perform light housekeeping tasks which will facilitate the client's self-care at home. These tasks include, but are not limited to: vacuuming, dusting, sweeping/mopping floors, dishes, laundry, cleaning bathrooms.The Home Health Aide responsible for documentation of service provided, using the Client Care Record.The Home Health Aide should not contact the physician directly, but rather refer all questions or reports of client's condition changes immediately to the nurse supervisor staff.Home Health Aides will receive at least twelve hours of in-service training per year as documented in the In-Service Log which is monitored by the Nursing Supervisors. The in-service training may be performed while the Home Health Aide / Certified Nursing Assistant is providing care to clients.Non-Essential FunctionsOther duties assigned by SupervisorEducation / Skills / Abilities / AvailabilityHigh school graduate of G.E.D. certificate preferred.A minimum of three (3) months full time Personal Care Assistant or relative experience in health care (in homes or facilities) and successful completion of a state approved Certified Nurse Aide or Home Health Aide course.The Certified Nursing Assistant shall have successfully completed a Competency Evaluation that meets the State licensing law for home health agencies.Must have a sympathetic attitude toward the care of the elderly, and ability to deal effectively with the demands of the job.Current CPR Certificate.Meet the requirements for employees providing direct client care.Read, write, speak and understand English as needed for the job.Have valid driver's license and use of an insured automobile for work or access to adequate transportation.Working EnvironmentPrimarily works a certain number of hours or shifts in clients' place of residence, travel required. Shift times and days vary with client needs.
