About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: MedSurg/Telemetry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Active RN License Certifications: BLS, ACLS Must-Have: RNs must be able to titrate drips. Experience with cardiac patients and telemetry monitoring is required. Description: The unit provides care for cardiac patients and those requiring telemetry monitoring. Common diagnoses include AMI, post-operative lung surgeries, and respiratory failure. Nurse-to-patient ratios are typically 1:5-6. The charge nurse is present 24/7; charge nurse does not take patients during the day but does take patients at night. Patient care assistants are available, ideally with a ratio of 1 CNA per 12 patients. CPAP and BiPAP equipment are available, with respiratory therapists managing these devices. Telemetry is monitored using Phillips monitors, and nurses must be able to read and interpret strips. Shifts are scheduled as 12 hours, either days or nights, with weekend requirements every other week. Travelers are expected to work holidays as part of the permanent staff rotation. Staff may float to other MedSurg units based on need, with capped ratios for higher acuity staff. The dress code requires royal blue scrubs for RNs. This is an acute care setting with a trauma level of 2.
