Speech Language Pathologist
Solterra School
Redefine What's Possible for Neurodivergent Students Solterra School blends Universal Design for Learning, Social-Emotional Learning, and integrated therapeutic support in an eco-conscious, highly individualized learning environment. We're looking for a Speech-Language Pathologist who wants to help students find their voice, access learning, and build relational confidence — not from a therapy room down the hall, but woven into the everyday life of the classroom. The Role As our onsite SLP, you'll evaluate, treat, and support students with speech, language, communication, and feeding-related needs. You'll work shoulder-to-shoulder with teachers, behavior support staff, and other clinicians so communication support shows up throughout the school day — in transitions, at lunch, during group work — not just in a scheduled session. You'll serve students with diverse learning profiles, including neurodivergent learners, students with complex communication needs, and AAC users. Documentation fidelity and compliance readiness are part of the role, aligned with clinical standards and payer requirements as applicable. What You'll Do Assess & Plan Conduct comprehensive evaluations across speech, language, pragmatics, voice, fluency, and feeding/swallowing (within scope) Build individualized, functional therapy plans and measurable progress-monitoring systems Deliver clear, actionable written recommendations for school-based implementation Provide Direct Therapy Run individual and small-group sessions supporting receptive/expressive language, functional communication, pragmatics, speech sound production, and executive-functioning language skills Use strengths-based, dignity-centered approaches, incorporating play, movement, and sensory-informed strategies Champion AAC & Functional Communication Support students on low- and high-tech AAC systems Train and coach staff to implement AAC consistently across every setting Help build communication environments that promote autonomy and reduce frustration-driven behavior Collaborate on Feeding Support (as applicable to scope and licensure) Screen and support feeding-related goals alongside OT, health services, and families Integrate with the Classroom Embed language strategies directly into instruction alongside teachers Partner with BCBA/behavior staff to align communication and behavior goals Coach staff in real time to reduce communication breakdowns Keep Documentation Sharp Maintain timely, compliant records — therapy notes, progress summaries, treatment plans Track progress with clear, measurable data systems Support authorization tracking for Medicaid/commercial payers where applicable Partner with Families Communicate goals and progress in clear, parent-friendly language Support carryover of skills across home and school settings Join planning meetings as needed What You Bring Required Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited program Active or eligible Virginia SLP licensure Demonstrated experience supporting students with diverse communication needs Strong communication, professionalism, and collaboration skills A commitment to ethical, student-centered, dignity-based practice Ability to move and lift at least 50 lbs. Successful completion of safety care course Physical activity requirements such as walking, jogging, running, lifting, and standing on feet for extended periods of time ASHA CCC-SLP preferred Nice to Have Experience in private day schools, special education, or integrated education-therapy models Background with neurodivergent learners and/or complex communication profiles AAC experience, including training classroom teams on implementation Familiarity with documentation systems and payer compliance Experience collaborating with ABA/multidisciplinary teams You'll Thrive Here If You Are A calm, regulated presence in the room Naturally collaborative and comfortable being embedded in classroom life Organized, with strong documentation habits A creative clinician who sees communication as access, not just a skill to build Energized by a startup environment where systems are still evolving Who You'll Work With VP of Clinical Operations, Executive Director, teachers and education teams, BCBA/behavior support, Occupational Therapist, and families. How We'll Know You're Succeeding Students making real progress toward functional communication goals Communication access showing up across classrooms and routines, not just therapy sessions Consistent AAC implementation across staff Strong collaboration between clinical and education teams, and with families Solterra School, LLC is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to an inclusive environment for every team member.
