Job Description

Essential duties and responsibilities include assisting in sick call screening and physical examinations under the supervision of physicians. This involves recording health care complaints, taking patient histories, and taking necessary vital signs for patients. It also includes collecting samples for laboratory examinations, issuing routine medications, and recording treatment provided according to physician's orders and protocol. The role involves assisting physicians in providing emergency health services in life-threatening medical emergencies, including suicide prevention. It also includes screening and primary management of providing health services to offender patients in confinement based upon physician's orders and using physician's protocols. The position requires maintaining examination rooms, checking the operational status of health services equipment and supplies, and participating in continuing education and in-service training to maintain paraprofessional capability and proficiency. Additionally, it involves maintaining health services records, preparing designated reports, conducting initial and ongoing medical examinations and assessments, documenting results of assessments, giving injections, taking blood pressure and temperatures, preparing, administering, and recording medications, collecting urine, drawing blood, administering oxygen, caring for minor wounds using sterile techniques, and performing other duties as required.

Required Knowledge, Skills/Abilities

The position requires excellent verbal and written communication skills, excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines, and the ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or related software is also required.

Education and Experience

Experience in providing health support services in a hospital, clinic, or infirmaries is highly desirable. Graduation from an accredited school of nursing is required. The candidate must have two (2) years of Licensed Vocational Nursing experience. Current CPR certification is required. Experience working in an institutional or residential setting is preferred. The candidate must possess a license to practice as a professional nurse.

Physical Requirements

The physical requirements include continuous sitting per shift, continuous periods of walking and standing per shift, occasional climbing stairs per shift, remaining awake and alert while on duty per shift, lifting and carrying up to 20 lbs periodically and lifting up to 50-100 lbs rarely, and frequently working on computers/tablets throughout the shift. Frequent grasping, reaching, pushing, pulling, bending, and twisting are also required. Pay

The pay is $26.00 per hour. There is a shift differential of $4 per hour for 6am-6pm and $8 per hour for 6pm-6am.
