Job Category: Academic Staff Employment Type: Terminal (Fixed Term) Job Profile: Outreach Specialist Job Summary: The Office of Multicultural Affairs Health Professions Learners (OMA-HPL) provides academic support for students historically underrepresented in medical professions and creates a learning environment that fosters academic success for all students. The OMA-HPL promotes student success while also leading the School of Medicine and Public Health at the UW Madison (UWSMPH) outreach initiatives to increase the number of public health minded students entering the health professions. The Outreach Specialist will provide a wide variety of program support and coordination for OMA-HPL pathways programs, outreach initiatives, and student development initiatives for undergraduate and medical students. This position will work collaboratively with internal and external campus partners, community organizations, undergraduate programs, Universities of Wisconsin campuses, and health professions programs at UWSMPH. Employment Details: This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location. The work schedule is flexible and will be determined at the time of hire Terminal, 24 month appointment This position has the possibility to be extended or converted to an ongoing appointment based on need and/or funding. Must provide a valid driver's license. Employees may use their own transportation or receive approval for University Car Fleet usage. Key Job Responsibilities: Identifies, promotes, and maintains external partnerships to support the outreach program Delivers outreach program content and materials to community members Assist with additional OMA-HPL student development initiatives and other duties as assigned by the Assistant Dean and Director of OMA-HPL. Leads the implementation of programs, policies, and procedures through oversight of day-to-day activities for program staff and student and community volunteers Researches, develops, and facilitates outreach program content and materials Schedules and secures resources and communicates logistics in support of an outreach program Department: School of Medicine and Public Health, Office of Multicultural Affairs-Health Professions Learners, Office of Multicultural Affairs. The Office of Academic Affairs (OAA) in the School of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH), supports SMPH by overseeing all aspects of various health professions educational programs: from admissions programs and curriculum oversight to student services and multicultural initiatives across our statewide campus. It also is responsible for successfully meeting all national accreditation requirements as well as timely compliance with all health systems, school, campus, and legislative policies and regulations. The OAA fosters a professional atmosphere to prepare health care providers and health public professionals at all stages of career development. The OMA-HPL was established to provide academic opportunities for students underrepresented and marginalized in the health professions and to create learning environments that foster academic success for all students. It provides guidance for educational partnerships, summer research opportunities, and initiatives toward expanding all representation in health professions. Compensation: The starting salary wage for the position is $55,000 annually; but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications. Benefits: SMPH Faculty /Academic Staff Benefits Flyer 2026 Required Qualifications: At least one year, full-time professional experience in student outreach, pathways programs, or student support; particularly in a higher education setting, with a focus on supporting students from underrepresented and/or historically marginalized backgrounds, student recruitment, and/or graduate program preparation. Experience in event planning, coordination, and execution (scheduling learner activities, coordinating programs and events, preparing professional documents and program materials, maintaining accurate records, and meeting assigned deadlines). Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a strong customer service orientation. Demonstrated administrative, organizational, and time management skills. Preferred Qualifications: Experience working in higher education Experience with digital tools for content creation, presentation design, and team collaboration including Canva, Adobe, PowerPoint, Teams, Google Drive, and Box Education: Bachelor's degree preferred Eligibility and Sponsorship: University sponsorship is not available for this position, including transfers of sponsorship and TN visas.
