Secondary Teacher Job Description (2024- 2025 School Year)Job Summary:Under the direct supervision of the Secondary Assistant Principal, the Secondary Teacher will implement daily student instruction based on an educational curriculum designed to meet State of Nevada as well as federal standards for students at Amplus Academy. The teacher will create and maintain an educational atmosphere that encourages effective student learning.The teacher will be expected to adhere to Amplus Academy’s professional standards as well as Nevada Department of Education licensure standards. Amplus Academy is a classical education charter school located in the southwest area of Las Vegas. Amplus Academy has two campuses serving Kindergarten- 12th grade students.Terms of Employment: 180 work days per Contract of EmploymentSalary: The compensation for this position is in alignment with the Amplus Governing Board approved Salary Schedule; Salary Schedule based on years experience and degree held. Compensation for all positions are determined by the Governing Board and Administration of Amplus Academy. Consideration is given for experience and specialized skills in determining salary.Salary Range: $50,840- $80,000 with 100% Employer Paid PERSSupervisory Responsibilities:Supervises the behavior of students in the classroom, on school grounds (including hallways and lunch rooms) and on educational tripsDuties/Responsibilities:Plans and develops an engaging, age-appropriate course of study in the classroom, adhering to educational best practices and school, state and federal curriculum guidelinesDesigns and delivers individual lesson plans using a variety of teaching techniques and appealing to various learning stylesEnsures the opportunity for students to learn in a positive, supportive environmentDevelops a classroom climate that promotes positive learningPrepares materials for lessons, assignments, and tests; evaluates, corrects, and grades student performanceAnalyzes student progress and provides appropriate instructionDiscusses academic difficulties or behavioral problems with students and parents as they ariseMonitors students progress throughout the year and evaluates preparedness for graduation, vocational school, or college, as appropriateCollaborates with guidance counselors to help students develop post-secondary plans including college or vocational schoolAdministers standardized tests in accordance with school and state laws and policiesCommunicates progress and concerns with tact and professionalism to parents and, as appropriate, other faculty, staff, and/or principalBuilds and maintains positive relationships with parentsEnforces safety and security standards for students, staff, and visitorsMaintains required paperwork for individual student files, attendance and incident reports, and other necessary recordsMonitors halls, study periods, and lunchrooms with other faculty and staffParticipates in faculty meetings, educational conferences, in-service opportunities, workshops, and other training seminarsMaintains knowledge of research, developments, and best practices in secondary educationPerforms other related duties as assignedRequired Skills/Abilities:Thorough understanding of the pedagogy and best practices of educationDesire to teach Secondary (7th- 12th grade) school-aged children and ability to adapt to their developmental statusThe ability to design lessons that teach in an engaging manner and guide the learning process toward achievement of curriculum goalsStrong supervisory and leadership skills to manage and control the classroomExcellent verbal and written communication skillsExcellent interpersonal skills with the proven ability to maintain professionalism and tact in high-stress situationsExcellent organizational skills and attention to detailCreative analytical and problem-solving skillsProficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Classroom or related softwareEducation and Experience:Bachelors degree in Secondary Education, subject area or other related fieldCurrent Nevada teaching license requiredOut of state teaching license with ability to transfer to Nevada prior to start of school year accepted in lieu of current Nevada teaching licensePrior teaching experience (2 years+) preferredSpecialized training in teaching junior high and high school-aged children is preferredPhysical Requirements:The physical requirements indicated below are examples of the physical aspects that a person holding this position must perform in carrying out essential job functions.
