Job Summary The Michigan Center for Respiratory Virus Research and Response and the Department of Epidemiology at the University of Michigan School of Public Health are seeking an experienced, highly organized and motivated project assistant to join our dynamic team. The Center has a large portfolio of respiratory virus research studies in collaboration with the Centers for Disease Control Control, the National Institutes of Health, and the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health examining vaccine effectiveness for influenza and COVID-19 vaccines and identifying respiratory virus response in community settings. This is an opportunity to join a collaborative team and assist with the implementation of research studies with meaningful outcomes. This is a full-time research coordinator position working in the Center under the direction of Center leadership, Dr. Emily Martin and Dr. Arnold Monto. The ideal candidate will work independently and as part of a team to assist Center Project Managers in implementing multiple research studies. The ideal candidate should have previous experience working on public health research projects, including enrolling participants and obtaining informed consent, and familiarity with working in a research setting.
Responsibilities* Study recruitment & enrollment:
Must have valid driver's license. This position involves operating U-M vehicles in order to transport specimens. Modes of Work Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes . Additional Information This role will be 100% in-person at the School of Public Health. Occasional evening and/or weekend availability is required. This position is term-limited for one year with possibility of extension based on funding and performance. Responsibilities* Study recruitment & enrollment:
- Facilitate study recruitment and follow up with interested participants.
- Schedule and enroll new participants into an ongoing cohort study/studies. Obtain informed consent/assent and clearly communicate study details through a virtual appointment.
- Prepare and distribute study supplies to enrolled participants.
- Follow established study protocols in all participant interactions and data collection activities.
- Collect data via phone survey; delegate calls to study staff or students and/or conduct calls depending on the research study.
- Assist with managing and daily monitoring of research study email accounts, respond timely to participant requests or inquiries, and communicate with participants as needed regarding study milestones.
- Using MiChart, place collection orders for research samples for enrolled participants.
- Manage supply inventory for Center research studies, including notifying study staff of low inventory, restocking and replenishing supplies and/or kits as needed. Manage research kit inventory and ensure that kits are fully stocked
- Serve as a liaison between community partners and project managers, maintaining regular communication with community partners to build relationships. Assist and/or manage (depending on research study) tracking logs of participant completion and study milestones.
- Provide support to all aspects of study implementation including data management and quality assurance and specimen transport and processing.
- Train and oversee research assistants, ensure proper scheduling, provide feedback and support when needed.
- Manage the calendar of environmental sampling visits for a study of viruses in childcare centers and cover shifts as needed. Visits will typically be once per week and will require brief laboratory work on the same day.
- Provide assistance with literature reviews, distributing study materials, attending study meetings, administrative research and other research related tasks as assigned.
