Materials Engineering Technician

Position Summary Build your career with University of Dayton Research Institute supporting cutting‑edge Air Force sustainment technologies in a metallography lab environment, offering health and retirement benefits. This position will support day‑to‑day metallography laboratory (met‑lab) operations for United States Air Force (USAF) sustainment activities including additive manufacturing (AM), cold spray (CS), additive friction stir deposition (AFSD) and applied corrosion technologies. Primary job duties include specimen preparation and characterization, operation of test equipment, incoming quality control inspection, assisting with metal powder inventory management, coordinating purchase orders and sample shipments, and supporting materials engineers with other project activities as assigned. Minimum Qualifications T2 Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent 3 or more years of directly related technical experience Experience following instructions, exercising sound judgement, and exhibiting good work habits in the performance of assigned duties Organizational skills Attention to detail Proficient with MS Office U.S. citizenship required due to contract requirements T3 Minimum Qualifications All T2 minimum qualifications Additional 5 years of directly related technical experience (8 total years minimum) Preferred Qualifications T2 Preferred Qualifications Relevant technical study beyond high school Directly related metallography technical experience Direct experience with specimen preparation including polishing Demonstrated experience with lab environments and adherence to lab policies & procedures Experience working with metal powders Experience working in a manufacturing environment Experience working under a certified quality system such as ISO9001 or AS9100 Effective communication skills with team members at all levels T3 Preferred Qualifications All T2 preferred qualifications 8 or more years of directly related metallography technical experience Direct experience working autonomously Direct experience coordinating daily lab activities and communications Direct experience discussing, evaluating, and solving complex and varied technical problems Special Instructions to Applicants To apply please submit a cover letter addressing each minimum qualification and any applicable preferred qualifications that you meet.
