Lifeguard

Department: Fred Endert Municipal Swimming Pool RESPONSIBILITIES: The primary responsibility of alifeguard is to ensure the safety of patrons at all times and to provideexceptional customer service to our community. The Lifeguard position is alsoresponsible for assisting with and performing routine maintenance and cleaningat Fred Endert Municipal Pool. Wageand Benefits Hourly Wage -- $17.15- $17.65 BENEFITS: 40 hours of sick leave per fiscalyear and participation in 457(b) plan. THE SELECTION PROCESS may consist of a written exam, an oral interview and a timedswim. Subsequent to a job offer and prior to being hired, a candidate must successfully pass a medical examination,drug screen, DMV review, fingerprint and background check.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Age: Must be 15 years or older Work Permit: Required if attending high school Certifications : Possession of StarGuard Elite certifications, or equivalent certifications which meet Emergency Medical Systems Authority standards in: Lifeguard Training, CPR for the Professional Rescuer Ability to: Meet standards set by American Red Cross orequivalent; swim 500 yards in 12 minutes or less; swim 50 yards in 45 secondsor less; requires frequent swimming, sitting, standing, walking; sufficientstrength to rescue students/swimmers in distress. Make good judgement, havetact, a positive attitude, and the ability to react quickly and appropriatelyin an emergency situation; Effectively educate patrons and enforce all rulesand regulations of the facility; develop good public relations skills, includinga friendly, courteous and enthusiastic attitude; Must maintain the ability tocontinue learning and improving their professional and technical skillsincluding a variety of in-service training for safety, customer service, etc;Keep certificates up to date by attending recertification classes annually; Usea computer, tablet, cellular phone in daily work activities; Have flexibilitywithin their work schedule. Essential Functions / Knowledge and Skills: Prevent accidents and minimize or eliminatehazardous situations; Administer any emergency first-aid needed by the victimof an accident; Communicate with other lifeguards and facility staff the needfor additional assistance and/or equipment; Complete all required records andreports on schedule and submit them to the Designated Head Lifeguard; Performcashier duties when needed; Perform various pool maintenance and custodialtasks; Knowledge of facility rules and regulations, staff chain of command,characteristics of the aquatic facility.
