Data Warehouse Engineer

Our client is looking for a Data Modeler who will be responsible for designing and structuring data within a highly governed Azure Government Cloud environment, with a primary focus on transforming complex, unstructured, and legacy data into clean, normalized relational models that support reporting and analytics. This role involves defining data schemas, domain models, and overall data architecture while leveraging strong SQL/T-SQL skills for data discovery and transformation. The individual will work within the Azure ecosystem (ADF, Azure SQL, Data Lake) to support ETL/ELT processes and enable downstream consumption, partnering with data analysts and engineering teams to guide data flow and pipeline development. This is a hands-on role requiring the ability to operate independently, make architectural decisions, and apply data modeling best practices in a regulated, compliance-driven environment.

Required Skills & Experience
• Strong experience in data modeling and schema design (non-negotiable)
• Proven ability to take messy/raw data and structure it into clean relational models
• Deep understanding of:
• Relational modeling
• Domain-driven design
• Data normalization
• Experience with SQL / T-SQL
• Hands-on experience in Azure environments (highly governed environment) (ADF, Azure SQL, Data Lake)
• Experience with data warehouse concepts and ETL/ELT processes
Ability to work independently in ambiguous environments and make design decisions


Nice to Have Skills & Experience
• Experience with Azure Data Lake architecture
• Exposure to Azure Databricks
• Familiarity with data governance tools (e.g., Purview)
• Experience working in complex, highly governed environments (e.g., government, healthcare, finance)
• Understanding of Power BI data modeling
