Performs diagnostic cardiac sonography procedures to assess cardiac structures and hemodynamics in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice and with policies, values and mission of the organization. Responsible for commonly performed echocardiography procedures with consistent proficiency.
Procedures include:
- two dimensional transthoracic echocardiograms
- exercise/dobutamine stress echocardiograms
- agitated saline (bubble) studies
- UEA (ultrasound enhancing agent) echocardiograms Adheres to all local/state/federal regulations, codes, policies and procedures to ensure privacy and safety while delivering optimal patient care. Competently performs diagnostic cardiac sonography procedures to assess cardiac structures and hemodynamics in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice and with the policies, values and mission of the organization. Responsible for all commonly performed echocardiography procedures in the department with a high level of competence.
Cardiac Sonographer II
In addition to those performed by the Level I performs:
- Transesophageal echocardiograms with or without three dimensional imaging
- Intra operative transesophageal echocardiograms
- Structural Heart Procedures in the cardiac Cath lab
- complex congenital pediatric echocardiograms
May also be responsible for performing specific procedures and/or orient other staff to the department Cardiac Sonographer III
Performs diagnostic cardiac sonography procedures of high complexity to assess cardiac structures and hemodynamics in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice and with policies, values and mission of the organization. Responsible for all commonly performed echocardiography procedures in the department with a high level of competence. In addition to those performed by lower levels, performs:
- adult congenital heart echocardiograms
- cardiac research projects May also be responsible for performing specific procedures and/or orient other staff to the department. Job Description : CARDIAC SONOGRAPHER I: Education:
- Graduate from an accredited Cardiac Sonography Program
- RCS (CCI)-Registered Cardiac Sonographer OR ARDMS (RDCS AE for adult or RDCS PE for pediatric)
- BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider OR ACLS-Advanced Cardiac Life Support
- General knowledge of diagnostic cardiac sonography principles, procedures, and views as well as the operation and maintenance of imaging equipment.
- Capable of performing routine cardiac sonographic examinations as well as a basic understanding of human anatomy, physiology, pathology, and medical terminology.
- Possess written and verbal communications skills to explain sensitive information clearly and professionally to diverse audiences, including non-medical people.
- Good time management and organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize assignments and work within standardized operating procedures and scientific methods to achieve objectives and meet deadline
- Basic knowledge of computer applications, such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and Outlook) and related information systems (Radiology (RIS), laboratory (LIS), electronic health records (EHR), EPIC, and picture archive and communication system (PACS).
- Work under close supervision or within clearly defined procedures to complete assignments within established timeframes.
- Use existing procedures to identify and solve routine or standard problems.
- Ensure the privacy of each patient's PHI.
- Builds and collaborates relationships with peers and other healthcare providers to achieve departmental and corporate objectives.
- Graduate from an accredited Cardiac Sonography Program. OR Graduation from an accredited formal Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program or equivalent education that meets the credentialing requirement pathway
- RCS (CCI)-Registered Cardiac Sonographer OR ARDMS (RDCS AE for adult or RDCS PE for pediatric)
- BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider
- 2 years recent relevant experience.
- Intermediate knowledge of diagnostic cardiac sonography principles, procedures, and views as well as the operation and maintenance of imaging equipment, including some experience responding to traumas and various hospital emergencies.
- Proficient in performing cardiac sonographic examinations with a solid understanding of human anatomy, physiology, pathology, and medical terminology so as to recognize, prioritize and communicate suspicious or abnormal results.
- Possess written and verbal communications skills to explain sensitive information clearly and professionally to diverse audiences, including non-medical people.
- Well-developed time management and organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize assignments and work within standardized operating procedures and scientific methods to achieve objectives and meet deadline
- Working knowledge of computer applications, such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and Outlook) and related information systems (Radiology (RIS), laboratory (LIS), electronic health records (EHR), EPIC, and picture archive and communication system (PACS).
- Prioritize assignments and work within standardized policies, procedures, and scientific methods to achieve objectives and meet deadlines.
- Work independently, as well as be part of the team, including accomplishing multiple tasks in an environment with interruptions.

- Acquisition and post processing high complexity 3D/4D imaging and strain imaging
- Imaging pre and post structural heart transthoracic echocardiograms
- Left ventricular Assist Device and ECMO Imaging
- Cardiac transplant patients
- Adult congenital patients
- Involvement in cardiac research projects that incorporate echocardiography
- Vascular modalities in addition to cardiac imaging
- Cardiac MRI acquisition and analysis
- 5 years recent relevant experience.
- Advanced knowledge of diagnostic cardiac sonography principles, procedures, views, and equipment, including substantial experience responding to traumas, code blues, medical alerts, STAT calls, and various hospital emergencies.
- Skilled in performing cardiac sonographic examinations with an extensive understanding of human anatomy, physiology, pathology, and medical terminology so as to recognize, prioritize and communicate suspicious or abnormal results.
- Possess written and verbal communications skills to explain sensitive information clearly and professionally to diverse audiences, including non-medical people.
- Exceptional time management and organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize assignments and work within standardized operating procedures and scientific methods to achieve objectives and meet deadline
- Robust knowledge of computer applications, such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and Outlook) and related information systems (Radiology (RIS), laboratory (LIS), electronic health records (EHR), EPIC, and picture archive and communication system (PACS).

Cardiac Sonographer II Pay Range is $73.37 to $91.71 / hour. Cardiac Sonographer III Pay Range is $80.89 to $101.11 / hour. The compensation range may vary based on the geographic location where the position is filled. Total compensation considers multiple factors, including, but not limited to a candidate's experience, education, skills, licensure, certifications, departmental equity, training, and organizational needs. Base pay is only one component of Sutter Health's comprehensive total rewards program. Eligible positions also include a comprehensive benefits package.
