Registered Nurse (RN) Position Shift Details Second shift: 2pm - 10pm Days off: Sunday and Monday, with flexibility required due to potential schedule changes based on staffing needs and facility requirements Holiday work required, including Thanksgiving, the day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day. Time off during these holidays is not permitted; availability is mandatory. Compensation Submissions exceeding the maximum budgeted bill rate will be rejected. Candidate Requirements Must be local General RN experience required; psychiatric or mental health nursing experience is not applicable Do not submit candidates previously rejected for RN positions at this facility Job Duties The following duties are illustrative and may include some or all of the tasks listed, as well as other related responsibilities assigned. Primary Responsibilities Provide professional nursing care to students hospitalized in student health services units, or to inmates, juvenile offenders, or consumers housed in state-owned or operated facilities or institutions, as well as staff. Observe, assess, and document symptoms, reactions, and progress of patients in infirmary or clinic outpatient settings. Conduct nursing rounds, record vital signs, prepare and administer prescribed medications, treatment plans, and immunizations. Monitor restrained patients (e.g., lock-ups, detention, isolation) at regular intervals (every 15 minutes) and provide immediate medical attention in emergencies, including administering first aid, arranging hospital transportation, and contacting physicians as necessary. If assigned, schedule, assign, and review work of lower-level staff such as RNs and LPNs; this may include approving or disapproving leave requests and completing performance evaluations, though these tasks are not mandatory. Participate in staff development and education, review care plans written by staff, and train and orient new employees. Alternate Setting Responsibilities In a corrections medical center, manage all health care for 20-60 bedridden inmates, including making rounds, evaluating care needs, developing care plans, teaching health care principles, administering medications including narcotics, and providing direct nursing care as needed. Perform specialized procedures such as IV therapy, chemotherapy, wound care, oxygen therapy, dialysis, blood transfusions, intubation, CPR, tube feeding, catheterization, suctioning, and phlebotomy. Organize and oversee the 'code blue' team and direct health care staff such as hospital aides and licensed practical nurses assigned to the area. Act as lead worker in charge of one assigned shift in the absence of a nurse 2 employee. Assist physicians in conducting diagnostic health evaluations for students. Administrative and Clerical Duties Chart and record all medications, treatments, and pertinent medical information. Complete required reports such as incident and accident reports. Document Medicaid information. Order supplies and equipment, maintaining an accurate inventory of all controlled drugs, medications, and equipment. Arrange outpatient clinic appointments and medical examinations by school physicians. Coordinate new and refilled prescriptions ordered by physicians through local pharmacies. Perform administrative tasks and serve as a liaison within the organization. Conduct or attend meetings and occasionally serve as an instructor.
