Custody Advocacy Program Staff Attorney and Coordinator Part‑time (up to 25 hours per week) Who We Are Charlotte Center for Legal Advocacy, a nonprofit provider of civil legal assistance to low‑income people in the Charlotte region, seeks a part‑time Custody Advocacy Program Staff Attorney and Coordinator. Position Overview The Staff Attorney and Coordinator supports the Custody Advocacy Program (CAP), which assists children involved in high‑conflict custody and visitation disputes. The role does not generally involve direct representation in court. Responsibilities Recruit and maintain a roster of volunteer attorneys and custody advocates. Support outreach to law firms, solo practitioners, and community partners. Help develop and deliver training for volunteer attorneys and custody advocates, including updates to material on trauma‑informed and best‑interest advocacy. Provide guidance and technical assistance to volunteers handling high‑conflict custody cases, including procedural and evidentiary issues. Coordinate case referral and assignments with the Family Court. Develop workflows, forms, and internal processes. Rebuild program infrastructure, including policies, templates, and tracking systems. Assist with collecting and organizing data on program outcomes and volunteer engagement. Perform other tasks as assigned by the Chief Legal Officer or Chief Executive Officer. Required Qualifications Licensed to practice law in North Carolina. Interest in family law, child advocacy, or public‑interest law. Strong organizational and communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively with volunteers, court personnel, and community partners. Administrative self‑sufficiency, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. Preferred Experience Experience in family law, especially custody matters. Experience working with pro bono attorneys or volunteers. Prior litigation experience. Skills and Core Competencies Strong problem‑solving and decision‑making skills. Excellent communication skills with diverse audiences, including adults and children in crisis. Ability to work in fast‑paced environments and navigate ambiguity. Integrity and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Passion for serving low‑income clients and advancing social justice. Alignment with the Charlotte Center for Legal Advocacy mission and values. Work Schedule Part‑time, up to 25 hours per week. Hybrid schedule; some in‑office presence and occasional court‑related coordination. Salary and Benefits This hourly, exempt position starts at $30.00 per hour and may vary based on experience and skills. The position does not include health or other insurance benefits. Part‑time employees are eligible for paid holidays and prorated paid time off. Reporting Structure The Staff Attorney and Coordinator reports to the Managing Attorney of the Pro Bono Unit.
