After School Assistant

Vermont Family Life Center

Description:

Job Description: School Age Program Assistant

Position Title: School Age Program Assistant

Reports To: Program Lead and Program Coordinator

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Position Summary

The School Age Program Assistant supports the Program Lead in planning and implementing engaging, developmentally appropriate activities for school-age children. The Program Assistant helps maintain a safe, positive, and inclusive environment that encourages exploration, creativity, and social growth. Under the direct supervision of a qualified Program Lead, the Program Assistant contributes to daily classroom operations, child supervision, and the overall success of the program while ensuring compliance with all state licensing rules, safety standards, and VHFLC policies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support the Program Lead in planning and implementing age-appropriate activities that promote learning, social development, and creativity.
  • Provide assistance in maintaining a safe, clean, and engaging environment for children, ensuring all areas meet health and safety standards.
  • Supervise children at all times under the direct oversight of a qualified Program Lead.
  • Actively engage with children through play, conversation, and participation in planned activities.
  • Promote positive behavior guidance and assist in fostering a respectful, inclusive environment.
  • Support the Program Lead in organizing materials, preparing activities, and managing transitions between activities.
  • Monitor indoor and outdoor environments to ensure safety, cleanliness, and appropriate use of equipment and materials.
  • Assist with documenting attendance, incidents, and other program-related records as directed by the Program Lead or Coordinator.
  • Communicate positively and professionally with children, families, and coworkers.
  • Attend required meetings, trainings, and professional development sessions.
  • Uphold and model the values, policies, and procedures of Vermont Hills Family Life Center.

  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to follow direction and collaborate as part of a team.
  • Understanding of basic principles of child development and positive guidance.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism, dependability, and confidentiality.
  • Commitment to supporting a safe, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate environment for children.

Physical and Environmental Requirements
