Production Supervisor

Position Summary The Production Supervisor’s primary function is to direct and manage the trailer production activities of their area (i.e., Axle Department, Combo Start Line, Sidewall line). Ensure the area meets the production schedule and that the trailers produced are consistent with the Engineering drawings provided in the drawing package. Responsibilities Lead and develop small to mid‑sized production teams to achieve safety, quality, delivery, and productivity objectives while fostering employee engagement and continuous improvement. Ensure individual and employee compliance with all safety rules and requirements. Manage and direct the activities of employees to ensure that the production, quality, and safety requirements are consistently met. This includes staffing plan for the week based on production volume, preparing the line for a successful start of the next shift, managing rework/defects/scrap, implementing preventative measures, following Lean Manufacturing activities, performing safety observations, reviewing standard work with the ME department, updating training matrices, and keeping the area clean and organized using 5S principles. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws, including interviewing, training, planning, assigning, directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; resolving grievances, complaints, and problems. Attend weekly safety meetings, communicate topics to employees, and ensure they follow safety guidelines, disciplining when necessary. Attend weekly review meetings comparing Sales Order information and Bill of Materials to identify discrepancies and resolve before production. Coordinate with other Supervisors and the Superintendent to resolve issues that could prevent the schedule from being met. Work with Engineering to resolve issues that arise during the build process that could result in quality, safety, or performance issues. Communicate with Production Manager and ME/Maintenance Manager to ensure tooling, quality, and safety concerns are addressed while maintaining schedule. Manage direct reports’ timecards, including in/out punches, timecard approvals, vacation submissions and approvals. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Education: High School or GED required. Experience: Team Leader experience. Graduate of Team Leader Academy or college degree. Utilizes Microsoft Office Products. Scope of Responsibilities (e.g., number of direct reports, level of difficulty). Knowledge and Skills: All processes, production techniques, safety rules, inspection criteria, plant‑wide initiatives. Ability to effectively instruct, direct, supervise, and lead individuals and teams. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and specifications. Ability to operate a computer and use basic database, spreadsheet, word‑processing and email programs. Must be able to perform the physical requirements listed. Aptitude to learn and retain new information. Ability to organize and manage tasks effectively. Must be a self‑directed individual with initiative. Certification in Emergency First Aid, CPR, and Automatic External Defibrillator is required and will be provided by the company after hire. Certifications as required to effectively lead and perform the job (e.g., welding certification, paint certification). Ability to speak, read and write effectively in English. Travel: None. Physical/Mental Requirements Physical demands: Ability to stand and move on concrete 8‑12 hours a day, sit, talk, hear, see, walk, bend, reach, grasp, stoop, kneel, twist, crawl, carry, climb, work overhead, push, and pull. Ability to do heavy lifting (50pounds) on occasion. Ability to maneuver large parts and assemblies (up to 50pounds) by pushing, pulling, and flipping into place. Reasonable accommodations may be made. Work environment: Must wear company PPE (eye, head, hearing, hand, foot) against potential hazards such as scrapes, punctures, cuts, metal shavings, light radiation burns, pinch points, respiratory hazards, heavy falling objects, high noise, and hazardous chemicals. Employees may share desk space, filing cabinets, and office equipment.
