Job Summary The Medical Technologist Lead at North Mississippi Health Services is responsible for assisting the supervisor with scheduling, quality control, maintenance programs, and workflow organization. The role also includes ensuring the accurate and efficient transportation of lab-related supplies, equipment, and specimens while adhering to all relevant laws and regulations. Job Functions Coordinates workflow of phlebotomists in the Specimen Processing area. Serves as Charge Medical Technologist (MT) in the absence of supervisor or Lead MT. Assures accurate and efficient transportation of lab-related supplies, equipment and specimens. Follows all laws and regulations in the processing and transportation of laboratory specimens. Follows regulatory guidelines in handling/processing of laboratory specimens. Follows proper policy for accurate patient identification and labeling of all specimens. Effectively communicates with all NMHS staff, patients, their family members and customers. Uses AIDET as applicable. Attends CARES training. Assures proper service recovery is done for patients and/or caregivers. Answers telephone in a polite and efficient manner. Works as part of a team with all Pathology and NMHS employees. Ensures department testing, applicable to the area, is reported accurately and timely. Assists with meeting goals of department Performance Improvement initiatives. Ensures appropriate documentation of all required instrument monthly maintenance and quality control. Assists with training of students and new employees. Participates in continuing education programs to maintain and expand skills. Stays abreast of regulatory changes. Adheres to NMHS/NMMC Policies/Procedures/Guidelines. Complies with local, state, and federal policies, procedures, guidelines, regulations, laws, and statutes. Adheres to CAP & CLSI standards. Qualifications Education Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Biological Science or related field. (Required) Licenses and Certifications ASCP - American Society of Clinical Pathologist Driver License: Valid and in state Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Proficient skills with LIS. Good organizational and communication (written and verbal) skills. Knowledge of and appropriate handling of biohazardous specimens; prioritizes and organizes daily work demands of the area. Evaluates processes and equipment for optimal organization and performance. Communicates effectively. Provides excellent service to internal and external customers. Ensures quality control is acceptable and required maintenance is completed daily in the work area. Has extensive contact with the Pathology Department and hospital staff (including physicians). Has good written and verbal communication skills. Reflects a positive, caring attitude toward clients, patients, staff and the public served.
