Assistant Counselor (Assistant Group Leader) Active Kids After School Program Position Type: Part-Time, Seasonal (2-5 days per week) Program: Active Kids After School Program Location: The Adirondack Club, Franklin, MA Pay Rate : $15.25-$18/hr Job Overview Join us in creating memorable experiences for children through active play, engaging enrichment opportunities, and positive role modeling. As an Assistant Counselor (Assistant Group Leader) in the Active Kids After School Program, you will support Lead Counselors in providing a safe, structured, and engaging environment for elementary-aged children. Assistant Counselors play an important role in daily program operations by helping supervise activities, building positive relationships with participants, and ensuring children have a fun and successful after-school experience. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals interested in youth development, recreation, education, childcare, or camp leadership. Key Responsibilities Assist Lead Counselors in supervising children during all program activities, including recreation, enrichment activities, fitness programs, and homework support. Actively participate in games, sports, crafts, STEM activities, and group events. Help maintain a safe, clean, organized, and welcoming environment at all times. Support daily transitions including bus arrivals, snack distribution, activity rotations, and parent/guardian dismissals. Encourage positive behavior and serve as a positive role model for all participants. Build positive relationships with children and help foster an inclusive, respectful, and supportive program environment. Follow directions from Lead Counselors and supervisors to ensure smooth program operations. Communicate any concerns regarding child safety, behavior, or program operations to Lead Counselors and supervisors promptly. Follow all Active Kids, Adirondack Club, and Massachusetts EEC policies and procedures. Immediately report any incidents, injuries, safety concerns, or suspected abuse/neglect in accordance with program policies and EEC regulations. To qualify for the Assistant Counselor (Assistant Group Leader) position, candidates must meet the following requirements prior to employment: Suitable BRC (Background Record Check), completed upon hire. Minimum age of 16 years old . Ability to work effectively with children in a group setting. Ability to follow directions and work collaboratively as part of a team. Completion of Staff Orientation. Preferred Qualifications Previous experience working with children through babysitting, camp, after-school programs, sports coaching, tutoring, volunteering, or similar experiences. Interest in education, recreation, youth development, childcare, or related fields. Strong communication and teamwork skills. Positive attitude, reliability, and enthusiasm. Ability to engage children in activities and contribute to a fun, active environment. CPR/First Aid certification is required but we will offer training sessions for you to attend if you are not currently certified. Experience in structured childcare, youth development, recreation, or educational settings is a plus. Active, hands-on role requiring participation in games, physical activities, and recreational programming. Frequent standing, walking, bending, running, and engaging with children throughout the program day. Indoor and outdoor activities may be required depending on program needs and weather conditions. Schedule & Compensation Typical schedule: 2-5 days per week. Regular program hours are typically 2:45 PM to 6:00 PM . On half-days, school vacations, and no-school days, programming may operate between 8:00 AM and 6:00 PM , with morning and afternoon shift options available. Breaks provided in accordance with company policy and applicable regulations. Compensation based on experience, qualifications, and applicable certifications. Full Individual Adirondack Club Membership with access to club facilities, fitness center, pool, and group fitness classes when working a minimum of 5 hours per week.
