Registered Nurse (RN) – Medical Surgical / Short Stay Unit

Location

Schedule / Job Type

Contract | Nights (19:00–07:30) | Onsite | 13-bed Short Stay Unit | 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule | Every other holiday required

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care in a fast-paced short stay unit managing a high-turnover patient population including stroke, trauma, cardiac, and general medical diagnoses (e.g., UTI, COPD, cellulitis)
• Maintain a 1:5 nurse-to-patient ratio, delivering safe and efficient care throughout each shift
• Operate and monitor respiratory equipment including BiPAP, CPAP, and high-flow oxygen as ordered
• Collaborate with PCTs, charge RN, and house supervisor to coordinate patient care, rounding, and unit workflow
• Utilize house-wide telemetry monitoring system (Philips); EKG strip reading not required
• Float to other departments as needed, functioning in a team nursing support role when assigned to higher-acuity areas

Required Qualifications

• Active Illinois RN license (or confirmation that the application process has been initiated)
• Current BLS certification
• Current NIHSS certification
• General medical/surgical nursing experience
• Ability to work in a high-acuity, fast-paced environment with high patient turnover
• Must be able to pass a multi-panel drug screen; drug-free campus policy strictly enforced

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Experience with stroke, trauma, or cardiac patient populations
• Familiarity with Philips telemetry monitoring systems
• Prior travel or float nursing experience in a general medical/surgical setting
