Diabetes Educator

Job Summary The Diabetes Educator is a licensed health care professional responsible and accountable for providing diabetes education in the outpatient settings and through community and professional education services. Schedule Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40; Work Shift: Mon - Fri 8am-4:30pm Minimum Qualifications Graduation from accredited program for specific field of health care professional (Dietitian) Current state licensure Minimum of three years clinical experience Additional diabetes education experience highly preferred (inpatient and/or outpatient setting) Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) strongly preferred; applicants encouraged to successfully complete the certification within 6 months of obtaining required experience hours and not to exceed 2 years from date of hire Current BLS certification through any International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) provided courses such as but not limited to Ochsner Health System, American Heart Association, and American Red Cross. ILCOR course must include a manikin check off Certification in Lifestyle Management, Stress Management or Weight Management is encouraged Physical Demands Must possess good physical health. Some requirements include but are not limited to standing, sitting or walking for long periods of time. Lifting at least 20 pounds is required. Must be able to work with a moderate level of noise. Physical Effort required: Constant (67%-100%) – talking, hearing, seeing; Frequently (34%-66%) – reaching; Occasionally (1%-33%) – lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, climbing (stairs, ladders, etc.), balancing, stooping, crouching, handling/feeling Employment Each St. Tammany Health System staff member is expected to conduct themselves according to mission, vision and values.
