Working Title: Residential Education Specialist (Multiple Positions) Classification Title: Student Services Professional IB (SSP IB) Posting Details Priority Application Date (Posting will remain open until filled): Wednesday, August 12, 2026 @ 11:55pm PT Position Summary Under the supervision of the Associate Director of Residential Education, the Residential Education Specialist (RES) provides academic mentoring and learning support to students living in University Housing Services. The role is responsible for conducting weekly meetings with assigned students to review academic progress, evaluate coursework and syllabi, support time management and study planning, and guide students through upcoming assignments and exams. The RES also connects students to University Housing Services tutoring resources and provides clear information regarding university academic requirements, procedures, and policies. The RES is responsible for tracking and reporting on student academic progress, maintaining documentation, and meeting with students who are academically at risk. This includes developing individualized student success plans to promote academic improvement and persistence. In partnership with the Assistant Director of Student Success and Recruitment, the RES collaborates with Living Learning Communities (LLCs) by attending LLC team meetings, offering data-informed insights, and supporting student success initiatives within assigned communities. The role also contributes to departmental advancement by serving on departmental and Residential Education committees, supporting programs, initiatives, and strategic goals. Additionally, the RES supports student engagement and campus life by encouraging student involvement in co-curricular activities both within and beyond the residence halls, fostering a supportive and academically enriching residential environment. FLSA Non-Exempt (eligible for overtime compensation) Anticipated Hiring Range $4,482 per month. Anticipated hire is at the minimum of the classification salary range. For more information: Minimum Qualifications Knowledge and Abilities: Working knowledge of the methods and problems of organization and program management; research and interviewing techniques; principles of individual and group behavior; the ability to rapidly acquire such knowledge of the organization, procedures and activities of the specific campus to which the position is assigned; and the basic principles, practices and major trends in the Student Services field to which assigned. Ability to rapidly acquire a working knowledge of the specific objectives of the campus Student Services program and its relationship to the total campus operation; interpret and apply program rules and regulations; gather and analyze data; reason logically, draw valid conclusions and make appropriate recommendations; present clear and concise information orally and in written reports; and establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, CSU administrators, student organizations and other private and public agencies. Experience: Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of one year of experience in professional Student Services work at the entry trainee level. Equivalent amounts of graduate level job‑related education may be substituted for the required experience. Education: Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job‑related field. Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year‑for‑year basis. RequiredQualifications Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Ability to provide effective student services such as advising, tutoring, counseling, or other related duties in a college setting. Ability to interact professionally and communicate effectively with a diverse population of students, staff, and administrators. Effective communication skills in person, on the phone, and via online systems. Ability to maintain composure and professionalism while providing direct service to students, even in difficult situations. Demonstrated thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Commitment to maintaining a welcoming and inclusive work environment with diverse colleagues and constituents including faculty, students, staff, and members of the community.
