Job Title: Test Engineer Job Description

The Test Engineer supports development activities for assigned electronic control unit (ECU) components or modules with moderate oversight. This role focuses on planning, executing, and documenting testing activities to ensure electrical performance, quality, and reliability in both prototype and production-level vehicles. The Test Engineer collaborates closely with engineers and technical stakeholders to align testing efforts with project schedules and development milestones.

Responsibilities

• Support development activities for assigned ECU components or modules under moderate oversight, ensuring test coverage aligns with project needs.
• Plan, track, and execute assigned testing tasks in alignment with project schedules and development milestones.
• Coordinate with engineers, project leaders, and technical stakeholders to clarify technical requirements and align test activities with delivery timelines.
• Perform testing and verification of ECU hardware and software in prototype vehicles, following defined test procedures and standards.
• Perform testing and verification of ECU hardware and software in production-level vehicles to confirm performance and reliability in real-world conditions.
• Execute EMC-related testing and verification of technical change points to ensure electrical performance, quality, and reliability.
• Conduct hands-on vehicle testing to validate electrical functions and system behavior.
• Troubleshoot electrical functional issues in vehicles and perform basic root-cause analysis to identify potential defects or design concerns.
• Analyze test data and results using industry-standard automotive tools to identify trends, anomalies, and opportunities for improvement.
• Document test activities, findings, and results clearly to support engineering decisions and project reporting.

Essential Skills

• Experience working with test equipment relevant to automotive ECU and vehicle-level testing.
• Ability to perform hands-on testing and verification of ECU hardware and software in prototype and production vehicles.
• Capability to execute EMC-related testing and interpret results related to electrical performance, quality, and reliability.
• Skill in troubleshooting electrical functional issues and performing basic root-cause analysis.
• Competence in analyzing test data and results using industry-standard automotive tools.
• Ability to plan, track, and execute testing tasks in alignment with project schedules and development milestones.
• Strong collaboration skills to coordinate with engineers, project leaders, and technical stakeholders.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Familiarity with automotive ECU systems and vehicle electrical architectures.
• Experience working in a development or validation environment for automotive electronics.
• Attention to detail in documenting test procedures, results, and issues.
• Strong organizational skills to manage multiple test tasks and priorities.
• Effective communication skills for reporting findings and collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Work Environment

This role operates in a mixed laboratory and vehicle test environment, working with automotive test equipment and industry-standard tools to evaluate ECU hardware and software. The Test Engineer performs hands-on testing in both prototype and production-level vehicles, including electrical and EMC-related verification activities. Work involves close collaboration with engineering and project teams, adherence to project schedules, and time in test facilities and vehicle bays where safety procedures and appropriate technical attire are required.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Raymond, OH.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $35.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
