Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Labor and Delivery Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum three (3) years of relevant nursing experience License: State RN License in good standing Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP Must-Have: Initial assessment, Patient education, Inpatient obstetric care, Fetal well-being monitoring, Nursing process Description: The staff Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility for a group of patients for a designated time frame. The RN provides care to these patients via the utilization of the nursing process, nursing trends, technology, financial, and human resources within the philosophy of the institution. The RN performs all responsibilities and duties required by the unit as specific to the scope of service. The RN implements procedures and theories related to the specific area of practice. Maintaining up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided ensures the integration of information for use by the healthcare team. The RN completes initial assessments upon patient admission and develops appropriate plans of care in accordance with unit standards, based on patient and family needs. Plans of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures are implemented effectively. The RN modifies plans of care based upon continuous evaluation. Taking responsibility for patient and employee safety includes reporting and/or correcting safety hazards and incidents. The RN communicates directly and privately when necessary to resolve issues. Constructive feedback is offered to assist in the professional development of peers. The RN confers with colleagues to expand their knowledge base. Identifying personal learning needs and taking initiative to begin appropriate solutions is essential. The RN fulfills all requirements of departmental competencies. Providing care to the inpatient obstetric patient is a key responsibility. Fetal well-being is monitored throughout the process. Medication specific to the obstetric patient is administered as needed. Patient education specific to the obstetric population is provided effectively. Participation in intrapartum care of the patient and newborn during labor, delivery, and surgical delivery is expected.
